Im quite surprised that i havent seen an omen guide on the forums, so i shall be the one to fill in that gap.
Also, there is like a million typos i left in so sorry for that, my tiny shrimp fingers arent very good at pressing buttons.
Step 1: Getting to the far reaches
This is an all-purpose way of getting to any range you want so feel free to use it anytime
Sit on top of your ship’s mast when travelling into the dark sea, like this:
Since all weather events, islands, and atlantean ships spawn in the direction your character is facing, all of those things will just spawn behind your ship and let you sail smoothly. The only thing that would be bothering you are those pairs of giant waves since they arent tied to your character, but their damage is trivial enough for you to just ignore them.
Dont forget to grab a bar of soap before you sit on the mast, so when you get water poisoning you would be able to clear it without jumping out of the seat and risking falling off.
Step 2: Surviving the Dark sea
-
Frayed lead lines. Just completely fill your deckands with these to make the weather bearable. Otherwise youre gonna get completely melted by the waves.

-
Master shipbuilder. This is the easiest deckhand to max out and probably the most useful, since their ability will improve repair efficency and restore a bit of durability. Just spam the living balls out of it for free hp. You probably cant live off of just the free durability from the ability so youre gona sometimes have to use it in tandem with ordering your crew to do repairs.
-
Enchanter deckhand. Very simple, just use the ability when youre about to take a lot of damage to save up on durability.
Step 3: Spawning the Omen
This is the only part i cant really help you with, its mostly just rng so youre gonna have to just hope it spawns
I do have some tips for you to have a higher chance of encountering the omen:
-
The more people you have, the higher the chance of the Omen spawning. This is probably the important thing to know here, so group up with your friends or find a big party to go Omen hunting.
-
You can sense for the Omen. Also really important, as you can miss it even if it spawns if you just sail past it. All krakens in general spawn below the water with their tentacles hidden, only once a ship approaches them they pop out the water and attack. You can find any kraken hiding underwater with sensing.
A regular kraken’s energy singature (I need more images for different sensing types (An image of the omen’s signature would be much appreciated too))
The Omen’s sensing singature is located deeper in the water, you can use this fact to distinguish giant krakens from Omens (I think).
Most of the time the Omen will spawn right on your ship, and you wont have to worry about missing it, but this is still something you should be on the lookout for.
The Cheese
Now for actually killing the thing, i present to you the two cheese strats as promised
Island cheese
This involves getting the Omen next to an island and shooting it down from there.
To do that, you can either circle around the Omen untill you get an island to spawn, or circle the island untill you get an Omen. If youre planning to do the latter, dont forget to kill all other sea monsters and sharks that spawn since there is a limit at how many of these can be in one area. The most popular structure to cheese the Omen from is the pre-generated volcano, but any other island or siren rock will do (EXCEPT THE TREES!). Volcanoes have a cool spot you can clear water poisoning in to save on soap, hide under the solidifed rock at the end of lava flows coming from the top of the volcano.
I dont think there is much else to say about this.
Underwater cheese
I personally have not seen any other Omen guide cover this, but this strat is super consistent at killing Omens.
You will need 100% of the air capacity jewel substat, but a bunch of waterbeathing V potions can be used in a pinch
Step 1: Sail far away from the Omen (Be careful not to despawn it!)
Step 2: Jump into the water and swim to the bottom of the ocean.
Step 3: CAREFULLY and SLOWLY swim towards the omen untill youre able to hit it from the seafloor. If you get even a little bit too close then you die (Use a range build to have more of a safety buffer!). I suggest you and your party traverse the seafloor in a group, because getting ganked by giant sharks can easily become an issue. If both of your magics dont work underwater or youre a berzerker, you can actually equip the eagle patrimony and use spirit blast regardless of your stat build since it requires 0 investment in spirit. Its not gonna deal much damage, but as long as you got at least one hit on the omen, you can just let the rest of your team do the job.
*I recommend you try this on a normal kraken to get used to the death zone.
Tip: When youre underwater, you can flaunt and see the kraken’s tentacles (I dont know whether it works with every magic or not)*
Some tips regarding both of them
- Dagger thow has absolutesly insane range, if you have access to it, you should use it.
- You can put the darkness purging/beast conquering lost knowledge on any spell for it to have more range.
- Eagle patrimony with spirit blast can be used by any stat build if you dont have any other choice (I know i already said this but still).
- As long as you have any regen there will be green healing numbers showing up above your character when you hit anything. You can use this to know whether you are hitting the Omen or not.
Now, i would happily make this as a wiki post but i cant cuz im not tl3 so youre just gonna have to ask me to edit the thing if you have any extra tips.
