Have you ever sent a reply that was shunned as worthless?
Have you ever made a topic that has received no attraction whatsoever?
If so, then this thread is for you! Consider it your holy book to the forums, because THIS is how you won’t be wasting your time on it.
Defining Value
Hmmmm… just what is this mysterious concept that we refer to as ‘value’?
One can ponder this question all they want and still not find an answer for… various reasons.
I’ll tell you what it is;
Value is simply how useful something is. In other words, it’s how useless it isn’t.
REVOLUTIONARY INFORMATION!!
So what do you do now?
Evaluating a Post’s Worth
Well, you can only do so if you have common sense, and I don’t know how to make you evaluate that by yourself.
Begin by asking yourself the following questions:
If it's a topic
Has this topic been made before? If it has, is my information new? If it is, is the topic still open for replies?
What kind of topic is it? Do you seek to resolve a problem or to start a discussion?
Is your topic still relevant?
If it's a reply
Has this reply been made before?
Is this reply on-topic?
Is this reply helpful?
Is this reply clear enough to be understood by anyone?
Is this reply respectful?
Is this reply better off being turned into a message or a channel (TL3+)?
There probably is plenty more questions to be asked before making a topic or a reply, but I trust that you can find them in my stead.
With at least a portion of these questions of answered (and some common sense), can you still say that what you are about to send (or what you have already sent) is of value?
- If yes, congratulations, you’ve added value to the forums (and to your presence within them).
- If not, don’t even send this message, delete it right now if you have!
Afterwords
Congratulations! You’ve (hopefully) read through this post and found out about l̴̺̼̼͊̀͒i̵̡̘͑́̚͜t̴͕̠͕͒͐̕e̵̟͉͔̽́̐r̵̢̝̙͐́͠a̸͚͓͊͋̈́͜l̸̡̞̼̓͋͝ c̸͎͎͕̓̈́͛o̸̠̟̟͐͊̓m̴̼̪̺̀̚͘m̴͍͙̈́͋̓ö̸͇̝͇́̈́̓n̸̪̝͕̐̈́͊ s̴̢͙̙̓̕͝e̵̪͉̾̈́͛͜n̸̫̺̈́͑͜͠s̴̻̠̓͑̕͜e̴͇̼͙͌̾͘ that you can make use of to improve the quality of your forum posts (and perhaps, even your day to day life).
I must thank you if you decide to apply this guide to your web activity, it would mean that there would be one less worthless influence decaying these forums into nothing but pungent trash.
Have a good rest of your day, it might be your last (seriously, two people die every second).
