Make crew members (or at least the quartermasters) do things other than shooting cannons.
If you dock your ship close enough to a shipwright and start buying cargo, your crew (including quartermasters) will offer to help you
If you accept the help (probably by typing “yes” in the chat or through a gui prompt) buy a crate, your crew members will also each buy a crate (taken from your money), and follow you back to the ship, and will immediately place down the cargo wherever they can (wherever there’s first room)
If you refuse the help (either by saying “no” or not responding within 15 seconds), your crew will not offer to help you for 2 minutes
If you defeat an enemy pirate shiand bring your boat close to it, your crew will offer to help you bring the sealed chests over (again, say yes to accept)
If your ship is damaged under a certain percent, your quartermaster will start slowly fixing the boat using a hammer and your money (probably about 25% the speed of a normal player fixing their ship). The speed that your quartermaster fixes the ship depends on their tier (enizor would use a normal hammer, kenton would use a bronze hammer)
at any point you can tell them “stop” or “stop fixing” or something like that and they’ll stop fixing the boat until the next time you get into ship combat
Note that these are just ideas, and not all of them have to or should be added, but right now all crews do are shoot cannons and die, and quartermasters literally do nothing, which kinda feels like wasted potential
Also, some quartermasters allow you do certain things. For example, I believe Enizor allows you to enchant items. Edward Kenton (I believe that’s his name) gives you stats.
While I understand your suggestion, I feel like it would be annoying to implement. Regarding the ship repairs, that can be abused in PvP ship fights.
abused how? if both people have a shipwright it doesn’t really matter, plus at the speed it’s being repaired it won’t really matter as long as you’re actually hitting the other ship consistently: at 25% the speed of player we’re talking about like 900 health a minute - that’s a single cannon volley, and if you can only hit the opponent once every minute you probably aren’t going to sink them anyways
anyways, like i said that doesn’t really have to be added if it isn’t balanced, i just want crew members to actually do something other than fire cannons and give you 300 more ship health
Yeah I understand what the point of the post is, I just feel like if something like this were to be added, it would not be like this. It would be some other use, (no clue what that would be). I do enjoy the thought of having crews do something (even if it’s a minor thing).
I think another thing that could be added is having your crew help attack the other crew after sinking their ship. They don’t do anything for combat except allowing you to fire your cannons while sailing, and this would allow fighting other crews to be more engaging than the “lure enemies under your caravel and spam aoe attacks” strategy that is most prevalent in ship farming rn.
This will probably come whenever the lag is more optimized, and whenever we get bigger ships (most ships we have right now are a bit too small to have full scale battles going on them, which is part of the reason why spamming aoe while the pirates are in the water is so effective)
Whilst i think that crew being able to have more funtions. This just seems to be to much work, for to little reason, many functions would have to get added for this to work, not to talk about fixes and bugs.
