Obtainment:
You can make a bombshell if you go to a jewel crafting table and put in gunpowder (an item obtained from selling gunpowder barrels) and metal scraps. To make different bombs, you go to a cauldron, put the bombshell in as the catalyst, and anything listed in the ingredients list as a reagent. bombshells or specialized bombs are made in 3-packs (bombshell+saint lily’s flower = 3 heal bombs for example)

Bomb Ingredients
  • Aeroplast (Gale Bomb)

  • Tartarus Tears (Acid Bomb)

  • Thunder Crystals (Electric Bomb)

  • Esca of Obolus (Flash Bomb)

  • Saint Lily’s Flower (Healing Bomb)

  • Liquid Starlight (Napalm Bomb)

  • Everice (Frost Bomb)

  • Cloudroot (Smoke Bomb)

  • Volcanic Crystal (Magma Bomb)

  • Clearstone (Glass Bomb)

  • Arctic Crystal (Ice bomb)

Bomb Effects
  • Gale Bomb: Pushes you and enemies up when it explodes.

  • Acid Bomb: Applies corroding to enemies and makes a big acidic puddle

  • Electric Bomb: Shocks enemies. It is nothing unique by itself, but if it is thrown during a storm, lightning will strike it.

  • Flash Bomb: a really fast bomb that blinds opponents slightly but is mainly used for flares Party members can see it from any distance through objects as a marker unless they are in the dark sea.

  • Healing Bomb: heals 20% of a party member or your health

  • Napalm Bomb: applies to burn (duh), also burns down houses and trees. If you are frozen, it will not do you any damage and instead will thaw you out.

  • Frost Bomb: Freezes opponents for a short amount of time.

  • Smoke Bomb: a bomb that you can only throw downwards. Blinds opponents fully and gives you a short speed boost.

  • Magma Bomb: Same as the acid bomb but with magma.

  • Glass Bomb: creates many glass shards that are spread around and deal damage to opponents.

  • Ice Bomb: lowers the temperature of any opponents and creates a large ice platform when it hits the water.

Use / How they work

To use these, you can throw them or shoot them out of cannons to apply the effect. These bombs explode, have a bigger radius than cannonballs, and do much more damage to players in exchange for them doing less harm to ships than cannonballs. They appear in the inventory as an item as well as the cannon ammunition menu. When thrown, they hurt opponents and also the thrower if it is close (flash bombs and smoke bombs don’t do damage).

Plain Bombshells do as much damage as normal exploding cannonballs

Reason to add

This provides a way to make the battles more unique, provide escape routes, and allow you to make your own cannonballs.

Q&A:

“Isn’t this just potions?”
basically, but for more unique purposes. They can also be launched by cannons.

“Can Cannon Fist use these?”

yes.

I will record more questions and answers below this statement.

Good day to you all. (NOTE: this is not a joke post)

LETS GOOOOOOO

This is genuinely peak, love it.

How would Cannon Fist’s Warlord imbuement interact with these?

the bomb’s effect is applied to the weapons, when you hold H you can change what bomb (it still costs ammo, when you’re out of bombs it has the effect of the normal bombshell, so basically explosion)

lamp oil and rope suggestions when

i mean yeah it seems to be potions, but still pretty cool noneless.

funny gimmick that can be another alternative to potions and ship fighting.

Why not have the bomb selected via the cannonball selection menu?

make it so that you can subtitute small gunpowder barrels for gunpowder/sell small gunpowder barrels for a smaller chance of obtaining gunpowder

feel like glass cant withstand canonballs, we need a ship attachments for launching potions

I think this would be a great addition to the game. For Cannon Fist, I don’t think it’d be overpowered, except maybe heal bombing yourself. As far as ships go, I don’t see any of these being too powerful compared to existing options.

I’ll probably go bankrupt shelling cities for fun and putting on fireworks shows if this is added though.

Some questions:

  • How would this interact with Cannon Fist imbue/magics imbued into Cannon Fist?
  • Does this work with mortars?
  • How many reagents are needed per craft?

some bombs like the ones with magic effects do have synergies to the magic they correspond with
yes, if it works for cannons it works for mortars
1 reagent and 1 shell makes 3 bombs

it is.

mini cannon

We already have mini cannons, they are the magic ship attachment

n that would just be for magic :expressionless:

I know but we already have them, they would need to be distinct dummy

The potions must be saved.

Well that would have to be “potion” effects like sea of thieves cannonballs, they could be used in combat with cannon fist and do very minor/unique effects because it seems like a balancing nightmare if they are just hollow cannonballs with normal potions inside. However, if like the sea of thieves cursed cannonballs, there is some possibility of improving ship combat like where one type of cursed cannonball flips your control scheme causing your enemy to sail in the wrong direction. Another one ripped just from sea of thieves would put their sails up for like 5 seconds allowing you to catch up better from using chainshots.
