I had a chat with my friend about how breakable terrain just seems like a useless feature. I wanted to hear your thoughts on it.

My main reason for disliking it is I just don’t see a big point in it. Yes it is very cool that my attacks can break almost every structure in the game don’t get me wrong. But most of my experiences with it have been the floor breaking while im fighting and causing me to change up my strategy a bit.
And I like that concept on paper but it can get really annoying especially when you’re fighting bosses. I can’t tell you how many times I fell into the floor of the Calvus boss room.
But with terrain destruction causes lots of lag spikes in the game and it can get pretty annoying to deal with all the time. I do think this feature will get slightly more fun in later seas where our attacks can get so big they can level an entire town with one big magic blast. But as it stands im just not a big fan of the feature.
Feel free to disagree though! I wanna hear some thoughts on why its good.
part of why i dont like pvp in this game is literally terrain destruction
i literally cannot stand getting hit by 600 damage because my character had to climb up the 2 stud ledge and getting hit by a 6 minute lag spike because my opponent hit a nearby house is not fun
I’m not sure right now, terrain destruction just exists it’s not making the game any immersive at all if you can’t make very deep holes off of walls and what not.
It just exists, on the ground, and quite frankly I find that insignificant.
I find destruction cool conceptually, but I think right now it’s being overdone and the threshold is way too low. Not every single attack should blow massive craters in the ground after one attack; I think it’d be better if it took multiple attacks to cause the ground to break, with maybe stuff like ultimate arts being able to break it easier
They should make the terrain regeneration timer stop/ take 5x longer than the normal time when there are players nearby (maybe only when combat tagged)
the rest feels okay, maybe decrease the destruction on most things so it takes a bit more to actually destroy the parts, but it’s fine.
honestly if autoclimbing was removed terrain destruction would be way less annoying, tho it would still be annoying. But autoclimbing absolutely needs to be removed or toggleable
I both love it (when it benefits me) and hate it (when it negatively affects me) so I would ultimately be neutral towards its removal, however it’s pretty integral to some parts of the game so I highly doubt it will ever be removed. I still hold some hope for arenas becoming indestructible tho
and that’s about it. Most of the time you just get stuck, but terrain destruction could be a cool feature if more puzzles/boss fights revolved around it
Some map secrets & exploration depend on terrain destruction, which would be more work to adjust than just “turn off destruction,” which is why the most I think vetex will ever do is turn it off for arenas (though this is incredibly unlikely already).
