It seems that the beloved feature of underwater structure exploration does not, in fact, give exacty 5% each time the player opens all the chests, finds incredibly popular forum user BlueFighter15.
Instead, it seems more likely that the amount given is a decimal number near 5%, but is not exactly that number. This is proven by the fact that, upon reaching 50 structures explored, a distortion appears that makes the next structure bring the bar not up to 255%, but to 254% instead.
We love programming weirdness
It is possible that was some bug, as it went back to 260% after the next structure
Anyways, I have gotten to 300 and all of the UI is now covered by the bar

first person to reach 1000% should get infinite oxygen
there are a bunch of glitches around rn cuz normally it is capped at 100%
first person to reach 10,000% should get a sea curse
At 2000% Legendary Vetex Underscore Games will grant you a secret item called the cataclysm gun
1000% should give you a liquid magic lost scroll
