I hc that he has Ryujin Dynasty heritage or has received some training there, that’s why his attacks got those weeb names like “Dragon Song” or “Dragon’s Fury”
or he’s just a massive weeb

Kai gives me that post Meiji Japan vibe since they really tried to become more European after that, and as consequence, aspects of both cultures were slightly mixed.

Ikr? I see him as having both Ryujin(Japanese) and Astorian(European, mostly West and South European) influences. Since both kingdoms are in the Chimera Sea its not improbable that he was raised in a mixed environment
oh wait i just remembered kai is a name in japanese too. though his fashion is really throwing me off from my guesses of him being inspired by that culture

Would make even more sense because the Meiji restoration was set after the US forcibly opened Japan’s ports and since ryujin is the equivalent of Japan and throne the equivalent of the US

Seems nice that AO has real-life history influences! However, I’m pretty sure Thorne is equivalent to the UK. Japanese-European trade has been well-established long before the US opened Japan’s ports. Furthermore, both Thorne and Astoria/the Grand Navy are major colonial empires, so both could fit the role of bashing open Ryujin’s doors

As far as I remember… some british person who journeyed to Japan in historical times presumably exaggerated the aspects of samurais. So Kai could fit this man, or fit the view of samurais after that.

a sabre and katana are pretty similar. theyre both a single-edged curved blade. primary difference is that a sabre is held 1 handed while a katana is held with both. even then, there are katana variants with different lengths, some can even be held 1 handed like the sabre
