The King leaned back upon his bronze throne. He sighed deeply, putting his head in one hand as the sounds of battle raged outside his grand hall.
King Calvus the fourth, ruler of the Ravenna Realm and high lord of the Order of the Aesir, was just about done with being ruler.
The death curse was stolen; Elius, Argos, and Carina were all found dead, and Revon stole his favourite thigh highs last night.
Calvusâs thoughts driftedâŠ
At least Commodore Kai came out as gay, he might have some chancesâŠ
The sounds of glass shattering and a massive explosion pulled him out of his fantasies. The intruders were storming his castle as he sat, making their way to his throne room.
Of course, he could just go out there and help Julian and the guards nuke them to ashes, but that would be rather anticlimactic. Many things could be said about the King, but nobody could say he didnât have a flair for the dramatic.
The sounds of shouting and footsteps neared his throne room, and he quickly sat up straight in his throne and cleared his throat.
While Julian and the guards laid down their lives in the name of Ravenna, Calvus had been busy preparing a dramatic speech to deliver.
The doors slammed open as two people dashed inside, their bloodsoaked boots slamming persistently into the floor, long signalling their approach.
Only two? Calvus thought. Good, Julian mustâve dealt with the fodder.
âWell well wellâŠâ Calvusâs deep and imposing voice boomed throughout the grand hall. âSo, youâve actually managed to reach me⊠The infamous Captain Caraway, killer of General Argos and-â
âItâs CAPTAIN Caraway.â Caitlyn Carawayâs shrill voice rudely interrupted his moment.
âThatâs⊠what I just said.â Calvusâs face drops.
Caitlyn âCaptainâ Caraway looked confused, and, as Calvus mightâve suspected, rather intoxicated.
âAhem, anyway. Believe me, I was furious. But that anger was nothing to the rage I felt when I saw that the Death Curse had been stolen right from my grasp⊠Since the thief so politely decided to show up to my front door, I suppose Iâll just take the Curse back with a Devourer, after I kill you all.
That annoying girl, the Curse Thief, this sorry prince, and you, all of you must die for the crimes you have committed against my kingdom.â
Calvus teleported before Neviro and impaled him in the blink of an eye before teleporting back to his throne.
âNow that the fodder has been taken care of-â
âShut up.â Caitlyn interrupted, once again rather rudely.
âWhatâŠ?â
âYou talk too much.â
Calvus glowed with all the power of an enraged monarch. âI talk too much? I TALK TOO MUCH? DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHO I AM???â
He raised an arm, a glowing magic circle appeared above his hand radiating power. More and more magic circles layered itself atop his hand, filling the room with an intense, almost overwhelming power.
âI AM KING CALVUS THE FOURTH, RULER OF THE RAVENNA REALM, FIRSTBORN SON OF KING OCTAVIOUS CAESAR. MY GREAT GRANDFATHER SINGLE HANDEDLY LAID WASTE TO THE KINGDOM OF WINTERVEIL AND I HAVE INHERITED HIS POWER. YOU REALLY THINK YOU COULD STOP ME-â
Pow!
Calvus fell over, a bloody hole appearing dead center on his forehead. The magic circle above him harmlessly dissipated into the air.
Caitlyn stood with a musket in hand, smoke coming out from its muzzle.
âKeep it to twenty words or less.â She said as she turned around to leave.
Before leaving, a glint of arcanium bronze caught her eye.
âOooooh⊠Nice crown.â Caitlyn took the crown from Calvusâs corpse and put it on her own head.
âNow letâs get outta here, Neviro.â
Neviro screamed in agony as he bled out on the ground.
