I’ve been reminiscing about pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon when I remembered how many little features it had.
Flying on the back of the legendary pokemon
The pokedex which gave you free boosts
Surfing from island to island via pokemon
Those stickers you had to collect to get the totem pokemon
Ultra beasts? They were a thing
A unique ability which wasn’t mega evolution redone
The ability to still get mega evolutions late game
why the hell hasn’t any game after that got nearly as many features?
Why can’t I go back to surfing on pokemon or mega-evolving my Absol?
Why gamefreak do you make the worst possible decisions?
ive noticed this about nearly every game thats been part of a franchise in the last few years, the newest releases always have less content or less small features than previous releases and it leads them to feel empty after youve played through once
its nice to see gen 7 get the gen 5 treatment where people realize they were hating on the games for no reason. SM werent that great but USUM were one of the best pokemon games, the only real issue being the insane amount of cutscenes and dialogue that made it feel like a visual novel for half the game
the games are devolving into low quality disasters with a bunch of paid add-on content that feels like a cheap way to wring out as much money as possible
sure there’s hotfixes but the fact the launches are such a trainwreck is still unacceptable from a company this big.
then again, so many people buy pokemon games that game-freak really doesn’t need to try at all.
I mean have you seen how actually fucking dogshit the sandwich eating animation is in gen 9’s camping feature? Actually, a lot of things in scarlet and violet are so buggy and messy they make sword and shield look like peak switch titles.
I’m sorry if I’m being too pessimistic, at least the designs are alright, though for some reason a lot of pokemon introduced in this gen feel like shitty filler mons that nobody gives a fuck about. I’m looking at you squawkabilly and spidops.
Personally, I think it’s actually somewhat decent, since it allows for so many new strategies and makes certain pokemon that normally would be considered dogshit actually somewhat viable.
though there’s obvious issues such as possible things like a tera normal shedinja coming along but I guess that’s why dexit exists, even if it’s r3tarded.
im on the verge of bringing up 20 different smogon forum posts to prove why making the game a glorified version of rock paper scissors is not good but im not feeling that spiteful today
