Can we talk about fighting style rework

the fs rework is just not a good change at all

80% slow + hitstun each attack
we don’t know how long it will last but even if it lasts for like a third of a second that’s op as fuck
why are we giving the path with the most mobility and the strongest cqc what’s basically hitstun then also giving them a poise system that can… deal a 3 second stun

poise damage also increases with attack speed
so fast fighting styles will get insane combo potential from being fast + built in hit stun and they can fill the poise meter better???
okay..? why?
why not just make it scale off power instead of atk speed
scaling off atk speed is just… weird and probably really unbalanced

when a poise break happens you gain a 3 second stun + 30% damage
idk if 30% damage means like, 30% max health damage, or how easy it is to achieve a poise break
but what the fuck this is just guaranteed death
this feels like saying “if mages hit 5 blasts in a row then the enemy instantly takes 500 damage”
yeah it might be hard to achieve but what the fuck

the only fighting style nerf is reduced damage when far away but fighting styles don’t even have any good ranged attacks (aside from shot which doesn’t even have that much range)
so this won’t rly affect it anyway

tldr: fighting styles just became more cancer to fight against what the fuck

we can still fundamentally disagree with a change and make educated predictions on how it will affect the game
also this is one of those extreme changes where that goofy excuse doesn’t really apply

i’ll have to add i could be wrong and the numbers could be low enough where it isn’t rly an issue and poise break doesn’t happen unless the fs user is just leagues more skilled
i’m hoping that’s the case cus without the exact numbers it all sounds very op on paper…

I feel like the change wasn’t made with PvP in mind at all. As if it was completely forgotten during the decision-making, actually. While I do find poise to be… workable (minus the whole fast FS being better thing, which is a THERMO BUFF), the stagger on hit is what I’m concerned about.

We have no clue how “brief” it is. It could be a quarter of a second (moreso just cancelling what the target was gonna do), it could be half a second. If it is anything longer than a one-hit stun synergy (sunken sword + lightning for instance), it’s automatically going to make FS the PvP meta as if it wasn’t already great. Zoning them will be REQUIRED instead of just a good tactic, as you’ll be really, really fucked if they get close up.

I already hate fighting against FS users, so giving them a buff like this will be pretty horrid to fight. While it is good for berserkers to be able to contend in PvE (I would’ve preferred if such things like this only applied to NPCs and not Players, but that’s probabyl not feasiblee), the buff to Warlords, Juggernauts, and Warlocks in PvP will surely be cancerous to fight against, as they already have their ways of contending in PvE (not using FS).

This is my initial opinion, so any clarification on the functions would be great. It’ll also be very important to release a showcase of this to the public quickly, as I’m sure that backlash is gonna be pretty heavy (as evidenced by my own negative opinion and how quickly this post was made).

Well yeah, fighting styles do well in PvP scenarios but are rather subpar in PvE scenarios (like you mentioned.) Not to mention PvP feels like an afterthought by vetex in most cases as a way to retain players once they finished their build and the story

vetex could’ve just added fs hitstun against npcs only and i’d glaze the change like crazy :sob:

The PvP implications of such a change should still have been at least thought of. Weren’t things like petrified/frozen being actual stuns removed because of how powerful they were? I don’t feel like something similar to it (and actually more powerful than those currently are) should’ve been added to the one class the benefits most from keeping people contained.

And, like Onion said, adding these to NPCs only would’ve just been fine. However, I do imagine such a change is extremely difficult to code, so I see why it wasn’t done.

vetex can clearly and very easily make the distinction between npcs and players (given how AP affects the aforementioned differently)

It’s definitely hard to give an opinion when he was very vague on the actual numbers of the system, we have no idea how large our poise meter is, how well attack speed scales with it, and how fast it regens. We also have no idea how long the hitstun in cqc is, without much info it’s hard to really make a case for whether it’s a good change or a bad change. Like it could be a useless change that is so hard to proc they might as well already be dead when it happens, or it procs so often that you just have to sit back and watch a movie scene of your hp getting wiped every good combo they land. We can only voice our worries and pray they don’t do a classic Arcane Odyssey like with the Pulsar and Pierce spells

i think FUNDAMENTALLY hitstun and a 3 second stun should not be in the game period

so i really hope the numbers are so low that it’s basically useless

I doubt it, this seems very intentional and there are way harder things in this game that have been coded successfully

I understand where the worry is coming from, but at the same time I feel like we should wait until a proper demonstration is put out before making any harsh criticisms

and ig this will affect size berseker a lot too, they will need to stay close and not only spamming blitz + crash

i mean
it isn’t clear if it means distance when u first cast ur ability or distance when u deal damage to them
if it’s the latter then crash and blitz literally brings u right up to ur opponent
