If you press Shift while casting/charging an attack, you lose some Magic Energy and the attack is canceled. This would allow for crazy mixups and begin to add depth to what is currently a very shallow combat experience.
It’s a cool idea ngl but considering the current PVP system feinting isn’t a good idea as nobody’s gonna use it.
Think about it, when you’ve fought players do you always see them or do they tend to go off-screen? Do you prepare counter-attacks for when your opponent is doing a specific move or do you just go with ur usual combo?
Maybe this is just a me thing but if anyone would actually use the feint system let me know.
It has the tiniest bit of use and its for the dagger throw spammers, they exploit the mages endlag and instinctively use it the moment they see a magic circle. So faking a magic circle will throw off the spammers to waste a skill and suffer the very thing they exploit. A tiny detail to counter the endlag demons, and AO is full of tiny details.
Nonetheless current mages can already bait on their own like randomly leaping into air to feint using a skill.
I think that people might use it. In PvE, if you start an attack but realize that the enemy is gonna do a high-damage attack, you could feint and then block. For that reason it will probably not be added, though.
What’s a problem is though causes more complication with keybinds and stuff. Also when PVE npcss use like something powerful it’s usually something strong so I’d say its only affective against bosses. However even with bosses, a lot of them have a pretty predictable and long windup on when they’re gonna use like strong attacks similar to Calvus. Casting Feint in PvE situation is basically not having attack speed
