With the Brig’s ram strength being updated in the 1.13.14 test build, something came to my attention- with this update, it’s nearly completely phasing out the slower rams that deal high damage. By having the base ram strength so high, it makes the disparity between the weaker and stronger rams less. 300-400 damage means a lot more when it’s a difference of 1.6k to 1.2k as opposed to 2.8k to 2.4k.
As a result of this, it might be better to have ships have a ram strength multiplier instead of a base ram strength stat. Perhaps it could have both, potentially. A small amount of base strength, plus a multiplier on top of whatever ram you have equipped. This makes it so that you can’t completely phase out the stronger and slower rams- their higher base power is multiplied even further while the weaker rams can’t benefit as much from the multiplier.
Alternatively, each ram could have a maximum capacity for strength improvement (another stat that changes between rams) to where even if your ship gives you more base ram strength than that limit the ram can’t surpass it. This is especially noteworthy for rams which have dot effects, as those dots have their potency determined by the damage dealt by the initial ram.
I won’t attempt to say any specific values, since I don’t know how rams will scale into the future. At the current moment though, this is kicking dirt onto the rams which are slower and stronger because the disparity between the slowest and fastest rams are so high. We might see swift light ram supremacy.
