Chapter 10 uber speculation (very long)

With Chapter 10 confirmed to be in development by Vetex and the addition of 2 new (storyline?) bosses, see:
*One of the two bosses in the upcoming story chapter will be fought alongside one of your allies. Who or what do you think the boss will be, and which character do you think will join you in the fight? (From the AO Twitter)
*
I have some new theories about who these bosses might be and some other events that may happen during Chapter 10.

Chapter Length
First, let’s talk length. The fact that Chapter 8 was a longer story chapter, one of the longest in the game by parts actually, and Chapter 9 being a fairly short chapter (mostly us fighting Ivar) might suggest that Chapter 10 will be a longer one. If we’re to fight two story bosses, then this might point to the chapter being extremely content-dense.

Who are the bosses?

Boss 1: General Hassan.
Evidence: Morden states that ‘there’s something off’ about Hassan, one of the Samerian generals in Empress Nilah’s general staff. Given that he doesn’t seem like an overly paranoid character I think these hint at Hassan having ulterior motives.
Also, when conversing with Empress Nilah in Chapter 9, she states that Tiwaz, the user of the Frostmetal Curse and one of Wotan’s sons, attacked Rosehenge directly and killed Captain Khalida, one of Nilah’s commanders.

Which I find to be rather strange: Rosehenge is out by the border of the Nimbus Sea close to where the Fenrir is(was) parked. If Keraxe wanted to take the island they could have just sent out an invasion force on boats and landed there without much effort.

It wasn’t as if Rosehenge was a particularly important target like Fort Montu, or Sameria itself, so why would Keraxe send out a user of a lost magic curse to attack the island? Jarson, who has the Lunar Curse, was away from the Nimbus Sea when Chapter 9 happened and only returned when the Fenrir was being attacked.

Given sea curses are the equivalent of walking WMDs in the Arcane Universe, I posit that Tiwaz’ attack on Rosehenge occurred only because somebody tipped Keraxe off about some VIPs being there. General Hassan could have fed intel to somebody in Keraxe that Captain Khalida/Iris were on the island, and Keraxe could have sent Tiwaz to take out Khalida as a result. Hassan could have made contact with Keraxe at any time (most likely when he and Morden were ‘ambushed’ on Pefkos) and let this information slip.
He could also have staged the ambush on Pefkos to confirm that Morden held the Death Curse, and also to give Keraxe confirmation of the Death Curse’s whereabouts. Wotan would be more than willing to let a few grunts die to find out the wielder of one of the War Seas’ strongest curses

I think that during Chapter 10, Hassan will be exposed or openly betray Empress Nilah for Keraxe and as a result we’ll have to murderdeathkill him.

Boss 2: Jarson (Optionally Tiwaz)
The absence of other Keraxe curse users in the war so far points to it being one of Wotan’s sons, namely Jarson and Tiwaz, the only two curse wielders to have participated in the war so far.
Of these two, Jarson seems like the most likely suspect for the boss. He’s mentioned near the end of Chapter 9 (Akeem mentions Jarson’s heading for the Fenrir as we’re about to leave), so it’s not implausible that he chases us down while the MC and their group is out on a mission and tries to kill us all. Empress Nilah also mentioned that Tiwaz had returned to the Vimir Sea.

If, as said above, Hassan let Keraxe know that Morden has the Death Curse, then Jarson could arrive with a group of soldiers to try and take it from Morden for the Big Tan. Given how Morden seems to be getting used to the curse it would make sense for him to help the MC fight a curse user (and win).

Other stuff: Reinforcements from Ravenna

Vetex also hinted at Ravenna getting involved in the war to back Sameria. Considering how their King was assassinated no more than like a month ago I find it strange that they’re throwing themselves into a war so soon.

Of Ravenna’s named commanders, all of them are occupied. General Valerii was ordered by Calvus to stay on Fort Castrum and defend against the Thorne Empire. General Argos is straight up dead. General Julian’s whereabouts are unknown but I’d assume he’s still beaten up from his fight with Morden (and besides I don’t think Ravenna would risk its only curse in this foreign war).

Of the nobles, Elius and Carina are out of the question already since they could be dead or in hiding based on the MC’s choices. Lord Ulricus could fit the job but he seems like a spymaster rather than a commander. Revon’s a bum so he can’t command anything.

What I think will happen is that NEVIRO COMES BACK.

Sure Vetex could introduce a new general, but the reason that Neviro returned to Ravenna was to ‘change it for the better’.
He could have become an advisor for the new King (Prince Revon or another nobody) or he could’ve overthrown the government outright, to send some troops our way. With how Neviro is supposedly a ‘major character’ I wouldn’t be too surprised if he showed back up next chapter with an army. It also makes some narrative sense since it’s been quite a while since we last saw him

Anyway rant over I’m going back to sleep

After taking a read through your speculation I find this to be really plausible ngl :sob:

Like the Neviro theory is something that sounds like it could definitely happen and it would be really cool if so. Same goes to the General Hassan being the bosses for Chapter 10.

Vetex already confirmed we’re not getting near the level of Wotan or his sons even by the end of the story

I think what’s more plausible here is that Keraxe wanted to capture Kelia, as she is Nilah’s daughter, which makes her a valuable hostage. Khalida doesn’t have anything going for her that would make her a high priority target, as relics aren’t especially sought after. Capturing Kelia, however, would give Keraxe leverage to force Nilah into surrendering.

Knowing Vetex it’s equally likely he’ll have Morden do most of the work (even though he’s kind of a bum)
Also it could be a scenario where Jarson/Tiwaz comes out of a previous fight (maybe with one of the Samerian curse users?) greatly weakened.

Also fair point on the Kelia issue. She is more important than some guard captain

I like your theory, besides Neviro part. Although it is reasonable assumption that he, as witty individual, will be capable of explaining whole Calvus assassination situation to people of Ravenna. I just don’t find such scenario possible since it’s only him against fuming people of Ravenna, albeit he might use help of Tiberians. However, I actually agree that such Neviro converting Ravenna scenario will appear in story, as you pointed out he is one of the “major character”. Just to sum up what I was trying to say is that I believe Neviro converting Ravenna scenario is likely to happen (and I’d like to see Neviro again), but isn’t really backed by some reason (no army to back Neviro and his lack of fighting skills, maybe scarce evidence to prove Calvus’ bad deeds).

Btw, this is out of the blue, but I feared (when Nimbus sea just came out) that we would fight Empress after she finds about our assassination of Calvus, and like she’d be angry that we are the cause of the Keraxe invasion…forgetting our good will to help our “wrongdoing” (causing treaty to fall apart). Now that scenario is quite unlikely, but you never know I guess.

I fear that WE are the army that is currently backing Neviro. I am pretty sure that the Nobels Of Ravenna know that Neviro was in the Castello raid with us , and with that knowledge, would they really try killing him while knowing damn well that there’s a risk of Mr Prodigy, Ms Anomaly and The Literal Death Curse User getting pissed off?

Unfortunately for them, Julian is no longer on an even level with Morden, and even if they are somehow fortunate enough to still have the cloud curse[1] , Mr. Prodigy and Ms. Anomaly would have no problem with beating up a Newbie Curse User.

  1. (Assuming that Revon or The Order haven’t stolen it already) ↩︎

i think the first boss will be some keraxe guy, similar to jarl ivar, then the second will be general julian when he arrives with ravenna reinforcements

well its a town owned by sameria that was close to the fenrir, since they want to take over the lands they would be going 1 by 1, rosehenge just happened to be the next closest target

possibly, i dont doubt vetex’s writing being this obvious but i feel like personally it’d be cooler if morden was just being delusional because of curse possession, and eventually he confronts hassan

what if.. the first boss is morden since he distrusts hassan and tries to kill him, and then us as well as hassan fights him off to get him to his senses? that’d be cool, and would also propagate even more morbum accusations (unfortunately vetex wouldn’t think of something like this so your theory is more likely)

this one i doubt, the sons aren’t just doing whatever they want, they’re directly being ordered by their father (who is a master strategist)

only real reason jarson would chase us down is if he has an ego that he didnt get there in time, or if jarl ivar was his gay husband and he wants revenge or something

agree with this, though will correct you that ravenna has a queen now, not a king (calvus’ eldest child is his daughter, and ravenna isnt strictly a patriarchy it just so happened that (to our knowledge) the past 2 rulers were either the eldest or only children and also happened to be male

most important things to detail about what we know

  • 1st boss has to be someone strong, likely a curse user or just a very experienced fighter, otherwise we would not need to do a 2v1 for help
  • one of the bosses are likely going to be tied to the order since we’ve yet to encounter them yet and we’re already 2 chapters into Nimbus (chapter 2 of bronze sea ended with us defeating elius), i suspect the second boss is likely going to be the order member we’ll probably fight a baron first again and i seriously doubt a mere baron is going to need a 2v1

It would make sense for the MC to help Morden fight a highly experienced Curse User (by barely doing damage).

Why are the Sons of Wotan so underestimated? they could flick their wrist and we’d be a shadow on the ground, it’s literally a situation where its an ant versus a human, WE’RE the ant.

Yeah, uhh, how?
There’s an incredibly high chance there’s a council that handles the next appointment of the Queen (Calvus has a daughter.), if Neviro were to show up - which makes little sense as he’s basically on the kill list for everyone in the entire Ravenna populace, who are likely very loyal to the kingdom - he’d fail to yap his way to overthrow it nor ‘mentor’ the new Queen.

The most that would happen is his head be on a stake in town-square, it just makes zero sense otherwise.

personally, I dont think we’ll be fighting any curse users head on at this point, my speculation for one of the bosses is the baron who was in skyhall [Who we all can agree is Queen Veronica.]

So far, the Skyhall part of the story has felt a bit lackluster to me, so i do firmly believe we’ll be returning there, which, the most optimal reason for, would be to defeat the baron and avenge Allanon.

plenty of ways, not every citizen has an undying loyalty towards the crown and there would more than likely be journalists for ravenna specifically that would hear him saying “outrageous” claims and interview him for more information

all it takes is for him to say “I can prove it!” to quell a lot of the rage, because people are curious by nature

whats the harm of hearing him out? at worst we just kill him when we find out hes lying

additionally if neviro started in tiberia (likely since its the closest town to windrow), the people there already hate the royalty so they would definitely be willing to listen (though i guess a few could potentially try to tip off the guards for a sum of cash, but most i feel like would know its in their best interest to listen to him), and then he has the backing of many tiberia citizens which strengthens his case since the guards would be unwilling to massacre a large portion of their own citizens (if it were like <100 then maybe)

“If you want to get me, you have to go through all these civilians. You wouldn’t dare.”
“Wanna bet?”

and then warren epically flies down and decrees with his deep rumbling voice
“none here shall harm these citizens and their leader, they bring important news for the fate of your kingdom”
and then everyone claps as a song with a remixed sample of let it grow from the lorax plays

wotan showing up from vetex’s brilliant writing (this is hype moment because warren versus wotan so its canon!!!)
conquest-invincible

revon being nowhere to be seen

calvus’ daughter and the entire collective ravenna army seeing the two strongest curse users in the bummest part of ravenna damn well knowing whoever survives will come for rubica next
