it’d be funny to put a Deus system and a Machina system next to each other
so I’ve was making a constructed alphabet for English to be used in this because we all like shitting on English spelling

one thing ive learned over the years of writing is that no matter what you do to English’s writing it always just looks uglier the more you try
its like the sometimes inconvenient laws of physics; you DO NOT FUCK WITH ENGLISH SPELLING
I am restricting myself to graphical variants of existing letters that piss me off
such as S, D and W possibly being changed to Σ, Ð and Ü
(s looks weird, D is difficult to distinguish from O and W is just a fatass letter that is too big)
Just make a new language. English sucks anyways.
I intend to do just that
However, the protagonists will speak a language that is graphically and phonetically nearly identical to English so that I don’t drive myself insane trying to write in a conlang
English has grown on me with its weird writing quirks that make it more interesting than a 1:1 transcription of sounds
No clue why, I’m a language nut. It’s practically a rite of passage for us to shit on English (I misspelled rite three times before getting it right while typing this

it stems from the map and the scale of the world
it is kind of a pain to make the map in procreate which probably wasn’t designed for what im using it for
its also kind of bothering me how empty it is (I know how dumb it sounds when I say space feels too empty its like saying a volcano is too hot)
pretty much everything on the map is filler
it just bothers how these massive planets, each one being unique, are almost entirely irrelevant
even the important systems are mostly filler
on any given habitable planet there’s maybe like one or two important locations
so im thinking
what if I just made it one system
one star system with humanity’s homeworld and a ton of stations
ships would be similar
they wouldn’t move faster than light anymore but they could move at relativistic speeds
possibly add some method of communication that’s faster than light so we’re not dealing with 30 minute latency between two planets

I might just go back to my other project that’s just dormant in a folder: one world with near-future technology and a slightly more “magical” magic system

you can have your worldbuilding focus on a small part of the galaxy to make it easier to make it feel lively
authors do that all the time
My brother in christ. It takes authors years to come up with a convincing world, which they are actually satisfied with. Sure, they could publish their books 6 months after the previous repeatedly, but thats because they have a world built.

on a more positive note i gave obsidian a try and its an absolute godsend

I would like to make a counterpoint to the above statement and say that you aren’t writing a next book in a series. There’s no shame in changing stuff about or getting rid of old stuff you thought you liked, but actually ended up hating.
