When you claim an island, you can have building tools to build something on your island, for example, make a fortress. And it’s pretty cool, but… We lack proper defenses. And what I meant with that, is that those defenses are just stupidly boring. We have a lot of tiers for walls, towers, barracks and etc. They surely do look cool, but they have the same mechanic. In the game we currently have only 2 types of firing defenses, which is the Culverins and Mortars. Culverins are… Well… Default cannons we all love. Mortars are unique because of how they attack: They launch a barrage of cannonballs into the air which then rain into enemies. Cool, right?

… And that’s all. Only those two. So that’s entire reason i’m writing this suggestion, because of lack of cannons. Defenses aren’t that good currently as enemy ships can easily avoid it, and they are pretty typical and not THAT unique. Have fun.

Net launchers

I know, I know, this is an attachments to your ships. But why not make them another kind of firing defense for your islands?

Net Launchers shoot spinning spiky nets which deal a lot of damage to biological creatures like whales and players, but deal 90% less damage against mechanical ones, like ships. Net Launchers have an unique range - They shoot in a big line in front of it AND vertically.So basically, they also can shoot something under water or in air.
They have a cost of 0.8x of the usual Culverin’s price. (Culverin’s price is 810 galleons.)

When hit a ship, it deals low damage and that’s pretty much it. However, when they attack a biological creature small enough (Not a giant shark or a whale), the Net will push those targets until stopping by inertia, and then holding those targets for a long period of time. Those nets can be destroyed, however they caught targets cannot move or do anything in the net. This is still not insta-d

Harpoons

Those have the price of 0.9x of a culverin. Harpoon cannons shoot out a javelin. Those cannons can actually be rotated even when build, and their range is a cone-shaped objects. Mid range.
Those cannons can attack sea creatures and ships. When hitting a Ship, the Javelin will be pulled towards the cannon, pulling up the ship itself. The ship cant really escape that, but those javelins also can be destroyed by an attack. After the Ship gets close to the Harpoon gun, it will be released while getting a bit of damage.

Devastator

An extremely big siege Cannon. The most expensive and damageful cannon. (Biggest range also). Shoots out a very fast, and very powerful projectile. Ha cone shaped range but also similar to culverin’s.

Blaster

A close ranged cannon made to push ships and players away.
Has a cone shaped range. If anyone goes in it’s small range, it will shoot out a powerful shockwave which will push enemy ships and players in the range strongly. Has a bit of stun and very fast recharge speed.

Out of ideas, so for now that’s probably it.

Pretty solid ideas!
The Net Launchers and Harpoons attacking sea creatures seem a little strange, though, since they’re completely idle as compared to ships which move around.
Sea creatures usually chase you or your ship when attacked, but since these are on land, they can’t do that, so what do they do?

Idk, I just saw TOO MUCH sea creatures going near my claimed islands, so I thought that idea was pretty reliable

i’ll put 10 of them in a straight line and see all the brigs on the horizon evaporate

It’s a pretty cool idea, i would also add

  • Arcanium Culverins or cannons/Mortars: These arcanium defenses would vary according to the island’s owner (if magicless, will have the default stats)

  • Hwacha (maybe?): it’s focused on damaging the crew in the ship, and specially the player.
    It could also have fire arrows as a selectable option that makes reloading take longer but deal more damage to the ship (because sail go burn)

I’m not going to rate this suggestion since I have mixed opinions on it. Net launchers sound like a downright awful idea, we don’t need auto-aiming stun turrets that can be spammed across an island, hands-down. Harpoons are a good idea on paper, but considering how trigger-happy clan defenses are, it would make dealing with claimed islands even more difficult for people who just happen to be sailing by. Plus, ships are buggy enough as-is, and a lot of janky physics would need to be fixed for harpoons to work. The other two, on the other hand, would actually make defenses interesting to create and deal with, and I’d personally like to see them added. TL:DR- Harpoon bad, net launcher very bad, and the other ideas are fine.
