Clarification on Fishing Rod enchants?

So, I’ve been going for Expert Angler for the last few days, and this may seem like a dumb question, but are we 100% sure of what the Fishing enchantments actually do?

Like, I’ve been using a Lucky Bronze rod for most of my recent search, and I noticed I was getting a lot of Giant and Golden fish. At first, I assumed that Sturdy made you more likely to catch fish with the Giant prefix. But after learning that the amount of hunger given by each fish correlates with its model size, I was starting to wonder whether the wording might be ambiguous, and it actually increases the chance of catching fish of a larger model size?

It sounds kind of dumb, but it’s been bugging me for the last few days and I need to see if anyone else thinks this has any merit.

IIRC lucky is for gold and giant fish, sturdy is less clicks to get a fish, lure is less time for fish to appear, and magnetic is for items

If so, then maybe I should be using Luring instead. I’m looking for a handful of specific rare-tier fish. I had thought that Lucky would have helped in that regard, but after reading Sturdy’s description, I thought that maybe that one would help instead.

  • Lucky is used to catch rarer fish and also increases the chance of it being a variant of that fish.
  • Sturdy increases the time you have to reel something in, decreases the amount of time it takes to reel in, and increases the chance of giant fish.
  • Luring decreases the time for a fish to appear.
  • Magnetic increases the chance for items to appear.

Keep using Lucky if you want a higher chance to get the rare fish you need. If you switch to luring you’re lowing your chances quite a bit.

I’ve been using Sturdy for the last 2 hours. I’ve gotten more Sharks so far than I did while I was using the Lucky rod for like 5 hours straight yesterday.

That’s pure coincidence. Sturdy only affects the time to reel in a catch, it does not affect rarity of catch.

you sure, I swear the description for sturdy rods said something along the lines of increased giant fish odds

my bad, it increases Giant catch rate, although it doesn’t inherently affect the rarity of a catch.

I was just unsure if “Giant” meant like, the physical size of the fish instead of solely the Giant prefix. It’s not very clear.

iirc it means both
