I might make this series with me and my friends about us being overpowered demigod(?) villains. This is set in the 21st century. I have 2 origin stories planned:
We’re the children of a tyrant dictator and we’re spoiled kids who get rewarded every time we do things that uphold the tyrant’s power
We’re bored people who do villain shit for fun
Which magic system would you rather have?
Classical Elements
Chemical Elements

Chemical has way more versatility in the ways you can play but it can get overpowered real quick.
Being overpowered sorta fine to me as I kinda want the children to feel like they have the inherent right to do whatever they want but get their asses kicked by other people who worked hard to get their powers while these children were lucky.
classical is easier to use and probably has a wider general audience
chemical has more potential in both power, versatility and fun, but requires knowledge to successfully pull off, might also have a smaller ( but probably more interested ) audience
personally id choose chemical, mostly because im interested in what you can do with it ( one of my worst subjects is chemistry lol )
Would be funny if in the end it was the same magic system both sides were drawing from and classical and chemical came from their interpretations of how it should be used.
I might make a story out of that concept or something similar some time.
why not both chemical magic and classical elemental
except, classical elementals seem to be able to lean more towards the supernatural side of their abilities whereas chemical users focus more on literal physical properties.
magical race war is REAL
make natural magic users either poor or purists, because they can’t or don’t want to study chemistry to learn chemical magic
and chemical magic users all rich aristocrats
