Corruption and Curses: The Salamander

Origin

Unlike with the other characters such as tech and Headless who were famous across the globe for their tremendous contributions, or BNT and Tong who were famed artists, or even Mako who was a beloved and respected member of a large community, the human once known as @UnitVector (referred to as Uvadin) remains almost completely obscured throughout history. It is, however, theorized that the Observer's curiosity took hold of this individual’s life, warping his form and sanity into something as twisted as this.

Appearance

Though greatly warped and changed, the form of the Salamander is none too unfamiliar to our own. The spine has elongated into simple vertebral columns with exposed spines protruding from the top and small rib-like extensions out the side that creep downward like a cage at the front. From one for every several vertebrates are a pair of exceedingly long arms bare to their muscles and down to the bone at their forearm with only connective tissue covering the carpals and a muscle running from the wrist to the elbow of each arm. The hands are long and thin with fingers that stretch far beyond the palms and are tipped with sharp claws that are used to cling to ceilings and mark territory.

The face has all but rotted away to reveal a bare skull with an exposed maxilla and shortened nasal bone. The very forefront of the face shows a morphing of the teeth, now sharp and jutting outward and a long prehensile tongue for the manipulation of objects. From the mandible (or lower jaw) are its own set of sharpened teeth while on the outside extends a pair of horns sharply pointed toward the front of the mouth. The zygomatic (cheek) bones are prominent in the face while the lacrimal and sphenoid bone outlining the eye sockets have been compromised with the bursting growth of twin horns that twist outward, then again toward the center, and once again out like a crown. From the posterior of the zygomatic bones protrudes another pair of horns that shoot outward like an accompanying headdress. From the frontal bone appears a single large eye unblinking as it stares. Moving to the top of the head, two sharp horns stick straight upward to complete the headdress of horns encompassing the face, beyond which brilliant locks of fiery red hair flow in a blazing mane.

Behavior

Although it’s been stated of many Corruptions in the past, this particular one is incredibly nonconfrontational, even passive, in nature and has zero recorded instances of ever attacking or killing a human. Rather, the Salamander prefers to stick almost too close to its target, clinging to the ceilings of his/her bedroom and feeding off their memories, paranoia, and most prominently their dreams. Though the Corruption itself behaves largely the same across targets, whether or not they live alone can change the dynamic and pace of Corruption, increasing for those who live alone and remaining a slow burn for those with a family as they slip into paranoia.

Due to its tendency to hide in plain sight with concern only for the target (and possible immediate family), bystanders such as neighbors and friends who witness the Salamander’s presence are also vulnerable to its Corruption, equally driven to insanity at the apparent lack of concern or acknowledgement of such a creature. In cases, it may consume more memories from the target in order to keep them less aware of the situation.

As can be observed of its many arms, the Salamander traverses by clinging to the walls and ceilings of of its target’s housing, there to greet returning family and targets alike. Still, clingy as ever, it does not stray far from one’s side and will follow it into any room within the house.

Unique Abilities

Dream/Memory Eating

Though all Corruptions feed from feelings of fear, anxiety, and paranoia, the Salamander’s ability to consume the memories and dreams of its targets is completely distinctive to it and its source of Corruption. Using its prehensile tongue, it will softly close doors in order to avoid detection and being disturbed in the night.

Prehensile Tongue

The Salamander’s ability to precisely maneuver objects with minimal detection comes from the prehensile tongue that hangs from its gaping mouth. With the tongue, it will softly close doors to better the sleeping of its chosen target, proceeding to sap their dreams throughout the night.

Wall Cling

Another unique trait of the Salamander is its ability to cling to walls and ceilings. Its sharp claws, which appear to never dull, mark and grip the surfaces it holds to, allowing for it to silently traverse the home of its target largely undetected.

Imagine waking up to this on your ceiling.

I’d rather not imagine that.

He usually finds a hiding space before you wake up since he can sense your eye movements and electrical impulses as he eats your dreams. It’s why you won’t wake up refreshed after sleeping around him
