Intro

You know, I’ve always wondered how poison sharks carry fully assembled daggers. What if you instead received a tooth and had to craft it, what if you could make armor from white eyes? We all have played games with crafting, given that AO has brewing, building for ship parts, and cooking, I feel crafting would fit perfectly.

Proposal

Outline

Any enemy that doesn’t make sense to drop a direct item, would instead drop crafting items. Blueprints for these would be found in sealed chests the same as ship parts, however any crafting item for the player would be built at an Armorer instead.

Craftable Items

Poison Tooth Dagger

Rare blueprint
Poison shark now just drops the tooth
Only requires the tooth and money to craft

White Eyes Armor set

Rare Blueprints
3 scales for White Eyes Scale Chestplate
2 scales for White Eyes Scale Leggings
1 White Eyes’ eye for White Eye helmet (rare white arcanium arcsphere, very rare drop, someone needs to carve out the eye)
Due to magic pollution in the scales, the stats are as follows
Rare rarity (or maybe exotic)
Lvl 100-200 (or higher)
Intensity, AttackSize, and AttackSpeed?
Should be atleast 3 stats and between Calvus and sunken in strength

White Eyes Scale Hull

Lvl 120 or 150
5 scales
Gives Medium defense, high speed, and magic storage (due to magic pollution)

White Eyes Scale Shield

2 scales
same quality as the Ravenna war shield
lvl 100-200
Very high block and durability
Could act like arcanium weapon when they are added.

Fins (Diving tool)

Increases swimming speed, Higher variant increases speed more.
Equipped like lanterns.
Greatly reduced agility above water (ever tried walking with fins? It doesn’t work.)
Faster fins are longer
Many variants
Low quality - kelp-based fins (found in chest)
Medium quality - Megalodon Scale Fins (Megalodons now drop scales, Crafted)
High quality - White Eyes Scale Fins (1 Scale, crafted)

Swordfish Rapier

Requires 1 of any rarity swordfish and any rapier as a base (giant could create a colossal variant?)
Same quality as a poison dagger
Same skills as other rapiers (unless someone can think of a special move)
image

Medusa Shield

Requires 2 giant jellyfish and a round shield base
Lightning-like effects (yes I know jellyfish actually inject neurotoxin, but magic pollution gave them lightning. Also poison dagger exists)
Low blocking, however high attack size.

Special move: Shocking Grip

Replaces shield grab
Throws jellyfish on someone’s head like cappy from Mario odyssey, and then deals damage when the tentacles strike, before shooting them down towards the ground.
Blue overlay on the person’s head who got hit (or whatever color the jellyfish is)
image

Pistol Shrimp Pistol

Its a pistol (needs bullets)
Requires a golden or giant version of a new pistol shrimp fish
Causes scalded
Same skills as pistol.
Same lvl and quality as poison dagger
Magic pollution allowed it to generate water without being in the ocean
Super compresses water to heat it and push a bullet through a short attached barrel
Dual variant too (just requires two pistol shrimps instead)
image

Archerfish Bow

Bow (no arrows required, also can’t use advanced arrows)
Requires a golden or giant version of a new archerfish fish
Applies soaked
Same skills as regular bow
Same lvl and quality as poison dagger
Magic pollution allowed it to generate water without being in the ocean

Sawtooth Sword

Bladed
Causes bleed
Cost 10 of a new drop from all sharks, shark teeth (-white eyes). Relatively common
Uncommon rarity
Same lvl and quality as ravenna greatsword
No new skills

White Eyes tooth spear

Spear
Cost 1 of a new white eyes tooth drop (less rare than scales).
Rare rarity
Same lvl and quality as ravenna GS
No new skills

Turtle Shield

Shield (Obv)
Uncommon rarity
High durability and block
Same lvl and quality as iron shield
Cost 1 giant turtle
No new skills
image

Heat weapons

Comes with lavafishing or magic polluted heat fish. Also magic polluted heat creatures.
Could give anything from corroded, melting, burn, scorched

Reasoning

Adds more depth and use to hunting non-humanoid creatures. Increases immersion. Allows for more creativity for themed weapons and armor. Greater integration of fishing and sea monster hunting to the rest of the game.

Comments

Although white eyes scale will be used for stat resets, it should also be able to have other useful uses.

Craftables requiring no extra fish or anything would be higher priority.

Other craftables could be added that are not armor or weapons. Tools mainly.

Hmm, I wonder how a system like this would look like later in the game?

But the more purpose you give an item, the better. Especially when systems like this can be expanded.

Also it was cool looking at the suggestion while it was in the works too!

it’d be nice for ingredients (scales, herbs, etc) to be usable for other things apart from their respective professions ex: herbs for potions and cooking, scales for potions and crafting. this suggestion could even expand to a new crafting/blacksmith and hunter profession.

love the idea of blueprints taking multiple resources apart from galleons to create, as well as the idea of fins (would help in the new diving spots/underwater structure/shipwrecks update)

however i do feel as if they should have diff stats compared to their counterparts (archerfish bow doing more damage but being slower than stormcallers) rather than applying statuses like soaked, kinda makes sunken sword feel less unique for an item that is so rare unless the shrimp pistol and archerfish bow are also rare

This is a pretty cool idea! I’m pretty sure when player professions come out, blacksmiths will be able to craft armour and whatnot.

I had something similar in my mind it is idea of weapon customization that will require you to get diffrent items and drops. I can apply for suggestor role tomorrow but this idea is still raw because i need more examples of modificators

has much as this is cool i feel like it would hurt fishing and fighting sea monsters over all
think about it oh wow you got a really rare drop now keep fishing because you need 2 other drops that is also super rare it just feels bad to get a rare drop only to learn you need 3 other items to make use of it

but good formating and effort i can’t give it good reasonability tho

give turtle shield an aoe move with knockback and we’re good

Most of the crafting requires doing multiple different activities to encourage playing other parts of the game or trade.

Blueprints from sealed chest
Sea monster parts from hunting
Fish from fishing

The idea is since it benefits stuff besides fishing it should require stuff besides just fishing.

Like giving it the devastate move?

This is a sick idea cause you could easily make Blacksmith a player profession when those come out and Blacksmith players would be able to easily craft and sell stuff to player or maybe even craft items for other players themselves. I was also wondering how the hell a shark drops an entire dagger lol.

Still I think it would lessen the reward of hunting/getting something

Maybe have it so you still gain the reward as already able to be used BUT you can find items to upgrade it like you can use the tooth as a dagger but does self damage till it’s upgraded/crafted into a dagger

Sounds interesting, doesn’t seem like a good idea to use a sharp blade without a handle.

it would also act as a small demo
so players can try them out before they commit to the weapon crafting

mean think about it you got the rare item you used 2-3 hours on it to craft it
And it doesn’t fit your play style
that WOULD suck
