Customizable Magic M1s

“What do you mean ‘customizable Magic M1s’? You mean the little blasts?”

Yup, the very same. I wanna make those customizable. Basically, I want to make it so that Magic users of differing builds and playstyles can make their M1 into something that suits them better. Now, I don’t mean we should make Magic M1s the same as spells in terms of versatility, they’re still a basic attack, but I do want to make it so we have options for what kind of basic attack we can use.

Honestly, it’d probably be better to provide an example. So, let’s say you’re… I dunno, a Lightning Warlock with Iron Leg. You’re definitely very CQC-centric, though obviously you can always back off and use Magic whenever you need to. Still, you’d prefer to have ways to fend someone off if they close the gap while you’re using magic, right? Obviously, you could just switch to Iron Leg. Or. You could just make a sword out of Lightning itself and start swinging it. Right?

“Uhhh, what? Have you gone off the deep end?”

Maybe. Not really sure yet.

When I first thought of it, it seemed cool and reasonable in my mind. I mean, why couldn’t a magic user shape their Magic into a weapon of some sort in order to fight? Hell, I don’t see why Metal, Ice and Earth Mages couldn’t do exactly that. And I’m not just talking about swords. Stuff like bows and battle axes and daggers, too.

This is what I mean by customizable Magic M1s. Replacing your Magic M1 with what is essentially an Elder Scrolls Bound Weapon made from your own Magic.

“Okaaayyy… But why though?”

The cool factor, maybe? The Sukuna cosplayers will go wild with the Fire Bow M1.

Plus, again, some versatility to Magic M1s would be pretty great. I mean, let’s face it, pretty sure nobody ever genuinely uses Magic M1s in combat. I’ve seen one very specific use case where someone will hop on another player’s still moving ship and M1 them from the deck, but that’s it.

“Okay, but like… Arcanium Weapons are a thing?”

As far as I know, via the Trello, Arcanium Weapons will be able to have specific spells bound to them, and will alter the properties of said spell based on the kind of weapon it’s bound to.

That is not what I’m proposing here. I simply want Magic M1s to actually have some decent utility.

Although, it would be interesting if your choice of M1 weapon influenced your spell in some way. But again, not what I’m here to do.

“Most of what you’ve said can just be accomplished by a Mage equipping a weapon to use for its M1s. And Conjurers are pretty much the antithesis of your idea. So what’s the point?”

Ahhh, but see, that’s just it. You switch to other things to do that, but having this feature would enable you to just be able to do the same with your Magic without any issues. Plus, it’ll obviously scale with your Magic stat, rather than your weapon stat, which would make it more useful than swapping to a weapon.

Anyways, this is just an idea I had to put out there, cause it nagged at my mind. Figured it would be better to at least try and see how it does rather than just never giving it a chance in the first place. So I’m sorry if I just seem to be another schizo on the forums, talking out of his ass.

I dont see why a warlock would use a magic sword, they already have fighting style m1s and dont have the skill to wield a weapon anyways. though apart from your poor example the idea seems reasonable, tho kinda unnecesary since that probably still won’t make anyone use magic m1s more

nobody uses any m1s in real combat, you’re not supposed to, they’re only meant for early game so you’re not stuck waiting on cooldowns

the idea of making a weapon out of your magic is cool and a good idea for a spell, but it feels like a waste to make it just a different m1

wouldn’t you just have to swap to the magic instead though?

Makes sense, but that’s kinda the point here, it’s less than useless once you start unlocking your arsenal, and I want it to have some utility.

My wording there was weird, whoops.

I had thought of making that instead. But I kept getting stuck on how it would work. I might make a separate post for that idea, too, once I work out the kinks.

I do agree more custom is always good but If I may give my personal experience I would like it if I could disable my M1 with magic completely. It felt like something I only used in Redwake against the bandits and then I only used it by accident and it just annoys me.

As you said the current M1 has too little utility but I would add that also the fighters and warriors neither have a lot of use for the M1! Most the time will use abilities and control distance and only use the M1 when raiding ships where the fighting area is very limited.

The only times I used M1 consistently was with cannon fist since they are useful due to good range and AoE. If I could customize my mage to shoot something like a blast spell that travels far and has AoE and is spammable with my M1 that would catch my attention for sure.

It is fun idea that makes your characters feel more unique. My issue is that it seems like something that requires a good chunk of work to implement in game for something that isn’t too useful.

close quarters combat?

my ao file’s lore document:

hell yeah

or when people like me need a quick lmb attack when leveling a second file during the lvl 1-10 era

i agree with this, i’ve noticed that flintlocks scale slower in damage when i level up a mage compared to a basic blast attack

dont ruin cfists only gimmick

Love the two voices having an internal conflict, but people probably still wouldn’t use m1. (maybe against NPCs tho - Bow M1 is good for that)

I would love us to have a “combat tool” where we can cycle between magic, weapons and/or fighting styles.

Like, have it all on a single tool to prevent clutter and maybe allow for some quick swaps, like having “sword draw” type skills be present while you have magic selected, and pressing it would perform the attack while switching you to the weapon in the meantime

This way the m1 could also be class specific instead of how it is today. Just a little daydream of mine tho, all in all i like your idea

how about you just imbue your weapon into your magic to get that
and it also changes the spell visuals to that magic
funne idea, good job

https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxJdglByc625l7XVFwkydbqjUSWSqriX2k?si=EYyfnhKYbW64R3is this is what i imagine magic m1 to look like at high levels. but still would be a bit inconvenient when u can just use self explosion ig. would be good for a quick stun ability

Pressing q would fire blast, crash, and flash strike at the same time :skull:

Hell yeah we need this it would be so cool

M1’s are downright useless for a game like AO (Which I believe is just shoe-horned in because Roblox devs), so devoting more time into M1 related features is a colossal waste of time unless you’re willing to rework how it functions from the ground up. We can be doing more productive things instead of adding more band-aid features on top of the already bad feature that shouldn’t even exist.

Bro you… I mean… Actually, yeah, why not?

World of Magic didnt have them.
It felt really really weird.
That’s why we have it now.
