Proposal

Seeing that satyrs, centaurs and dragons are joining the sirens in AO’s dark sea mythological creature group, I started thinking to myself, “What other Greek mythological creatures could be added to Arcane Odyssey?”. So, here is my idea for gorgons.

Details/background on your proposal

Gorgons in Greek mythology are described as women with the lower body of a snake, as well as snakes instead of hair, whose gaze can turn to stone. I think that they should look the same in AO. Color may vary between dark green, dark red and black.
Gorgons would spawn in the far reaches, being a dangerous foe. They would spawn in groups of 1-3, being found commonly in greater numbers the further in the player is. Gorgons in groups would also come colored differently, meaning two gorgons don’t have the same palette.
Gorgons would spawn in a couple of specific structures. These structures would all be large ruins, either of temples, forts or villages. You could recognize such structure from afar because there would be stone statues scattered all over the place. The middle would have a large pile of treasure with many chests and sealed chests, as well as some gems. The statues would vary in shape. There may be atlantean, human satyr, siren, centaur, vastus or even dragon statues. The statues spawn randomly, with the rarity being in order they were mentioned. Gorgons await in the middle of the structure
Their moveset includes spirit energy, magic and weapons. They are mainly paladins, conjurers or knights. The magics they use would be shadow, poison, acid or ash magic. They also have several exclusive weapons, Gorgon greatsword, Gorgon shield, Gorgon sword and Double gorgon sword. All of them can also be dropped. Gorgons would be level 300 in range 3, level 400 in range 4 and level 500 in range 5 when player’s max level releases. For now, they can be level 150, level 200 and level 250 for their respective ranges.
When a gorgon spots the player, it will slither closer to them to attack them. Gorgons in the same group cannot have the same class, meaning you’ll always have to fight a paladin, a conjurer and a knight gorgon in groups of 3. Knight and conjurer gorgon will try to get close to the player, but can also use spells. Paladin gorgon also has a weapon, but it will only use it if the player is too close, otherwise it will try to run.
A special move of the gorgons is called Gorgon stare. A gorgon may randomly use it during the fight. Their eyes will start glowing and be inverted in color. During this move, the player will have to find cover. Terrain, ruins and the statues will all do to prevent the stare.
If the player stays uncovered for more than 1.5 second, the effect will be inflicted. The gorgon will then use the move for another 3 seconds. If the player stays covered in that time period, the gorgon will return to normal and attack as usual. There is a 20 second cooldown before the gorgon may use the move again.
Gorgon stare lasts 3 seconds and stacks up to 5x and has 2 debuffs. It will blind the player slightly for every stack of the effect as well as slow them down slightly. At five stacks, the player willbe fully blinded and the petrified effect will take place for 5 seconds. After petrified effect sets in, the gorgon stops its attack.
When a gorgon is killed, a special effect takes place. Instead of just its wounded corpse dropping dead, its head will also fly off, leaving some blood stains. The gorgon may drop a gorgon weapon, a piece from gorgon robe set or a piece from gorgon scale set at a 1/4 chance. There is also a pity system, guaranteeing a gorgon drop at 5 kills.
Gorgon robe set is a set that focuses on power, attack size and agility. It gives 15-20 power, 20-30 attack size and agility for the cape, hat and pants and 18-23 power, 24-34 attack size and agility for the robes. The set is made of a rugged red, green and black bones and fabric.
Gorgon scale set is a set that focuses on defense, attack speed and intensity. It gives 80-130 defense, 20-30 attack speed and intensity for the pauldrons, helmet and boots and 96-146 defense, 24-34 attack speed and intensity for the chestplate. The set is made of worn red, green and black scales and metal.
However, there is another prize. After killing all the gorgons, the stone statues will be disspelled, giving them a cracked texture. This makes them breakable, allowing the player to get drops from the petrified mobs. The chances, however, are reduced by 80% since there is no fighting needed.
Gorgon greatsword is a long and serrated gray greatsword with a golden back and a red gem on the hilt. Its stats are 1.1x damage, 0.75x size and 1.1x speed.
Gorgon shield is a round black shield with a silver edge a gorgon’s head on it that has green gems for eyes. Its stats are 0.9x damage, 1.05x size, 0.85x speed, 2000 durability and 0.3x blocking power.
Gorgon sword is a short gray double-edged sword with a bronze line in the middle and a black gem on the hilt, the double swords look the same. Its stats are 1.1x damage, 1.05x size and 0.9x speed for the single sword and 1.1x damage, 1.0x size and 1.0x damage for the double sword.

Reason to add/change

I just feel like the Dark sea could have so many more mythical monsters. Satyrs, centaurs and dragons are all nice, but there are so many other creatures that could also be added, but won’t be.
I plan to make a lot more suggestions, including the Nemean lion, Manticore, Chimera, Harpies, Stymphalian birds, Lestrygonians, Cyclopses, Telchines, Hippocampi, Charybdis, Scylla, Hesperides, Kampe, Hydra, Hellhounds, Cerberus and Sphynx. I’ll try to think of drops for all of these, as well as some moveset.

Interesting idea

@techlevel80 you think you can work this into the game/lore/something?

Just asking because it seems like a cool idea that could be added

shield???
hell yeah, im in

yes

yej
would make Dark Sea more exciting
maybe the weapons could have a small chance to petrify too

Not sure how much work it would take to make it work but damn I love gorgons!

For a moment there I thought you where going to suggest that the petrify would kill on max stacks.

Add minotaurs that have a rare chance to be just a big guy with an axe :upside_down_face:

That is literally the calvus set

I thought the second you got hit it is insta death

this sounds fire, you cooked :speaking_head: :fire: :100: :cook:

I didn’t want to have any insta-kill moves as it would be pretty unfair. So instead, I made an attack that gives you a little time to react, but stull punishes you severely if you fail.
Instead of killing you, the petrification just makes you unable to defend yourself. Unless you’re extremely underpowered, the gorgons shouldn’t be able to kill you while you’re petrified, but would still do a considerable amount of damage.
