I encountered this nice island during my first visit to the Insanity Range 1 Dark Sea and painted it. I can’t explain the deja vu feeling mixed with nostalgia that occurred when I stepped on the island. Anyway, I am planning to do a full series of drawings of all of AO’s islands so feel free to suggest what island should I start with.
I love the artstyle of this piece. It gives off this scratchy, blurry atmosphere like your vision simply can’t stand looking into the environment. It’s eerie, unfocused, like we’re missing out on something.
Lovely work, environment drawings W
Start with Redwake cause why not.
Also very nice, good job
this is a really nice style
if you’re drawing every island then dawn island would be a good place to start
The art style by itself is great, then there are insanity effects (which are insanity 2 in insanity 1 range) and that thing just reminds me of a forest (childhood memory unlocked real) elm island drawing with edward on it would be great im this style.
I saw this on PMCH discord server, didn’t expect it to be an AO related art, looks great
me when somebody says something dumb asf: (regarding the text in the drawing)
This… This drawing right here, it completely re-contextualizes these islands. Holy shit.
It’s just… A place that once was. It looks normal, besides the rain and howling winds in the eternal storm… This was once part of the world.
This actually makes the Dark Sea somehow even more fucking horrifying, well done bro
Sheesh, thanks for helping me finally put the finger on what I actually meant to say. The Dark Sea is beautiful in its own way.
Fellow PM enjoyer
do the crystal island
I immediately thought… “Huh… This seems familiar…” Then thought… “Never seen a savannah area before, and Ravenna does not have THIS shade of gree- OH, WAIT. Bronze Grasslands… W.o.M. But nightime.”
I honestly have a very similar screenshot, but with some ruins in the background, and the lake being a bit larger. And I juts realized… The ruins really add something to the Dark Sea and some few Wilderness Islands, like the Djin Ruins, or Limestone Key… But I ahd forgotten just HOW MANY, W.o.M. had, that were jsut as mysterious and eerie, only less ominous.
So for me, nostalgia is that… Something that I remember seeing, in that world, exactly the same . Only, at a very different place, and a very different time…
wait you’re right this could be the bronze grasslands, there’s even something in the background that looks like it could be bell village
Nah, just looks like it. In all honesty though, I want an island that’s like this. Just… serene nature, but very large. Think of… Ravenna large, but no towns, or castles, etc… Just nature. And nature like that, I don’t mean the giant rocks of Mount Orthys.
Probably. Here’s the reference photo if it helps
To be frank, I haven’t played much WoM back in its days so I am unfamiliar with its map. My nostalgic feeling probably came from my time playing AA but I am not sure why AA…
Now that you said AA… Arcane reborn has been completely abandones since AO released, huh… Well, to be expected. Would be ncie to visit some old locations though.
But, I don’t remember any savannah like area in AA, so… I suppose the nostalgia comes from…maybe the emptiness and “calm” of these islands… Yet msot of those islands were filled with stuff… Maybe the feeling of exploring something new, and actually being nervous, actually realising there’s danger or the feeling of a newfound experience that reminds you of AA… Idk.
For me, it really reminds me… and I know this is a bit unrelated… of Booga Booga, if you knew it. But not the 2021 version, no… The way it was back in the old days… That, and its predecessors, that I, personally, find more complex and advanced, “Dusk” and “Dawn”.
Booga Booga has been abandoned too since Soybeen did… all that he did as a developer, too. huh…
Well now I’m sad… What games, there used to be… Well, such games still exist, but what grand communities… Well, the communities still exist too, but such games are not the popular kind anymore, unless discovered and shown by a youtuber. They only remain, for those communities.
I congratulate you, you’ve motivated me to go look through my 9 pages of favorited games, and go check them all again. Been quite some time, hasn’t it…
Blame the devs for hyperfocusing on legendary weapons instead of content accessible to the majority of player
Ik… That, and quite a bit more. But that’s a whole different subject for analysis. What I meant, was that the last few AR players were there jsut to play something of this nature, while waiting for the release of AO. Even people such as me, who’d grinded for hours, had seasonals, some of the best items, exotics, and most if not all the boss drops… Left the game without second thought…
That’s what surprises me the msot. Usually, with games like these, at least a few still cling on for a while, but with AR, the moment AO released… Just done.
