If you manage to pass through the final area of the Dark Sea, you’ll be introduced to one final count.
Once you pass through the second segment of the Far Reaches, your screen would fade to white with purple, wavy lines etching the outside. As the white screen fades away, you’re still on your ship, except your crew and Quartermasters are gone. And at the top of your screen…
- Breaking Point -
What is real. What is not?
The idea is this; this is the final area of the game. But here’s the thing; it doesn’t really exist. It’s all part of your mind. The Insanity is so strong here to the point where your mind has created it’s own separate reality to cope with it, with it being a play on the Boltzmann Brain theorem.
You’d get a new level of Insanity unobtainable any way else - Level 6. Your Dark Sea compass would spin, just like your regular one. The egdes of your screen would dance and leap and ripple.
And the thing is; unlike the other portions of the Dark Sea, this place isn’t deadly. It’s… quite the opposite. The waters are calm. No lightning, no heavy waves. No music. No whistling wind like there is in the Far Reaches.
The only source of sound; a gentle humming, similar to the Song the Sirens make.
Additionally, the game would hide your GUI, like Picture Mode but without the borders.
The Insanity effects of previous levels would have no effect here. No false messages or blood or fake damage. Nope. Insanity 6 does no harm, no foul.
Just hides your GUI, ripples the edges of your screens, and etches them with purple.
If you try to turn back, and go back to the Far Reaches… well, there no longer exists a Far Reaches. You turn back and there’s nothing there.
And at all times, there’d be a button at the bottom of your screen which says “Wake Up.” You can spam click it just like at the beginning of the game, and you and your boat are sent right outside the Dark Sea, wherever you entered.
I dunno how hard this’d be to implement, but I’d love to see it.
It acts as a sort of fast travel for people who’ve collected a lot of Chests but have passed through the Far Reaches (why would you do that anyways,) but also gives slight lore implications and gives off a “calm before the storm” feel.
Dunno. I’m tired and this seems like a good idea to me.
