Y’all know about White Eyes and how it’s functionally the only sea monster in the Dark Sea, right? Giant Poison Jaws hardly exists like the normal version and you aren’t seeing it above the Dark Sea’s constant rough waves, but there’s also no Obolus since diving points don’t exist there. There obviously has to be at least a few of them in there, but how would they hunt anything if they revolve around staying in a spot for other things to come to it?
Behavior
Like Obolus in the War Seas, a Dark Sea Obolus (calling it a Giant Obolus from here on) would also stay in the same spot, cloaking itself so that only its lure is visible, as usual. It would likely appear starting from the Insanity 1 range.
Differences would arise in how it lures: Giant Obolus would keep its lure above sea level, and said lure would create a fake Ghost Ship around it. The player would be able to tell it’s a fake ship by looking for the central orb, since the lure itself would remain opaque, and if the ship fades for a bit before coming back. If the player were to sail close, it would decloak and immediately book it to bite their ship. It would only go to the circling behavior if the player shoots its lure with a ship attachment.
To sum it up, Giant Obolus would create a fake, fading ghost ship to attract players, then bite their ship. The player can tell it’s a fake by waiting for the fade or looking for its lure, then attempt to kill the sea monster with ship attachments.
Rewards would be like Giant White Eyes’ drops: Doubled scales and doubled Esca.
Reasoning
As I said, I feel like the only real threat on the water specifically in the Dark Sea is White Eyes, since sharks don’t really appear other than it (and Atlantean ships, but those aren’t the focus). Also, it’d be nice to have a way to get Obolus Scales and its Esca in the Dark Sea without having to constantly dip the camera underwater to find the lure. I honestly feel like having to actively agro a sea monster with your ship parts for it to actually attack you defeats the point of it being a sea monster, and seeing how it would behave in a place without humans actively diving anywhere would be neat.
