Lately I’ve been having problems on AO due to FPS and my computer specs, so I’ve been playing the game at minimum graphics settings.
The only problem is that when I go chest hunting in dark sea, because of the very limited visuals, I encounter very few islands, since I have to literally crash into them to see them.
Now, I understand that this is mainly due to my pathetic PC specs, but is there a solution to this?
Since the problem lays in the PC itself, the only thing that I could come up with is something in-game like a compass that points to the nearest island.
First, what are your PC specs? (CPU and GPU matters here)
Are you playing on a laptop or PC? (If PC, you can mod it out by using fan air mods from Noctua and ducted intake and exhaust, like you’d see in an automobile engine - just design your PC in Fusion 360 or TinkerCad and make pathways for the air to the CPU cooler from the case fans)
I’d say increase your render distance in Settings in-game.
If all else fails, overclock your GPU.
A compass like that makes it too easy, an indicator that treasure is nearby could work…
As a fellow ancient spec PC user I truly feel your pain, dark sea island hunting is nearly impossible cause I feel like a blind man navigating a city. Unfortunately I doubt anything as easy as your idea of a compass pointing towards an island will be added, cause it would invalidate a big part of the risk vs reward in the dark sea (even though it would be nice).
Honestly the best thing us peasants can do besides band-aid fixes is upgrade our stuff, which is what I’m hopefully planning to do eventually. I’ll pray for our PCs in the meantime
Thinking about it, just upgrade the CPU and GPU - CPU to an i5-12600k, GPU to a 3060 or better. Cheap and you might not have to replace anything else. My reply above was for performance optimization. If you’re interested in that, go here.
The main Dark Sea FPS drops come from the Brig itself, compare your framerate with/without the Brig spawned/commanding it. Of course the Dark Sea itself is a bit laggy but isn’t that much worse from regular Bronze Sea (constant rain is likely the main factor)
If you can’t surpass 20 FPS on it then there isn’t much else you can do…
