Dark Sea Survival Guide (needs to be updated)

Right now, I’m making a guide where I give advises and describe what you should do to survive the Dark Sea.

I want you to suggest some things (if you want), but not obvious things like “you should by a brig”, since it will obviously be in it

make sure you have a way to bring back sealed chests you find before picking them up so you don’t get stuck facing a wall

it’s also good to park your ship at lower parts of islands so you don’t have to climb a mountain while bringing chests back

For those who don’t know yet, you can clear water poisoning by being in shade or cover such as inside the siren rock for example (not the brig it doesn’t count you gotta shower, stinky…)

projectiles.
oh and

  • always beat up atlantean ships except the brigs, they are basically free durability packs. if you cant manage the crew then just leave
  • ghost ships lead to lost cargo for a small repair, or rarely abandoned ships which sometime contain sealed chests
  • sirens are a joke
  • theres no good reason to go past insanity 1 unless you really want golden cooking pots, its definitely not meant for our level
  • somehow people dont seem to know insanity 5 cant be survived whatsoever so i guess im putting this here. even if a bug allowed you to survive, theres nothing special as you are meant to be dead

Gonna add some suggestions (almost finished)

When approaching an island, always try to dock your ship in a position that makes it harder for atlantean brigs to attack it

You can probably go without cargo as long as you don’t get past the 0 range

At mount orthyus they have rock pillars that give clear stone when broken which can make looting islands faster by making revealing potions

Make sure to check the little crevasses in the island walls because occasionally they have dark chests in them

Islands spawn in the golden flowers pretty frequently so make sure to get them for warding pots

Your ship doesn’t take dmg when leaving it besides lightning strikes

Avoid going from Ravenna and heading east your more likely to encounter players

-Avoid acid imbued weather and waves like the PLAGUE, as well as other DoT inducing waves such as fire and plasma.

-Typically, when you encounter a siren cove, if you’re alone, literally just ignore the sirens and run in and get all the loot as fast as possible, as it turns out, sirens hate people who don’t actually fight them, and they’ll have a very hard time trying to hurt you.

-When you get in the insanity 1 range, start sailing sideways so you don’t go in deeper areas by accident.

-Most atlantean ships are quite weak and should be attacked if you need some extra HP, but, generally, avoid brigs.

-Volcanic islands are completely useless in the dark sea and you should ignore them at all costs.

-Clearsight brews are less effective in the dark sea.

-Spire islands (those supermassive structures you can find sometimes sailing around) are generally not worth climbing, though if you don’t care for efficiency, a recent change has made it so the higher altitude that chests spawn in, the better quality they are.

-You can now pick up 2 sealed chests and other similar items at once, just hold Q for the second item you want to carry.

-If white eyes chases you, there’s a few ways to deal with it:

Shoot it with a gun or musket to de-aggro it

Park your boat in an area on an island that makes white eyes struggle to advance

-Make sure to play on graphics level 7 in order to get a good, non laggy experience.

-Avoid going into the dark sea with the ravenna disguise on, sometimes, it won’t despawn, and if it doesn’t, the game will still think you’re on ravenna, so the dark sea won’t function, and you’ll break the feature, this can be fixed by exiting the dark sea, and either trying again without the disguise, or rejoining the game entirely.

-Always take a bath before exploring an island in the 1st insanity range, this will give you a temporary “shield” from water poisoning that can help you explore the island for a longer period of time before needing to go back into your brig to take another bath.

-Literally just avoid any atlanteans above level 150, unless you’re a PvP god, it’s typically not worth fighting them, they ARE cheesy, AND THEY ARE buggy and inherently unfair, if you see one guarding good loot, either don’t engage and cut your losses, or try an invisibility potion (I dunno if this aggros still if you pick up something so correct me if I am wrong here.)

make sure you run 200 agility and still be tanky

The guide is here! You can still make suggestions to improve it

" It seems that tornadoes can’t be imbued with a solid magic."
the world if tornadoes could be imbued with a solid magic:
" Hearing whispering voices from random directions."
jokes on you game i play with sound off
"* Stage 3: High Insanity

  • The third stage of insanity. At this stage, the previously mentioned illusions will get even more intense. Here are some things that can happen when being mildly insane:"
    maybe double check your work?
" When traveling in the second range and other ranges farther, you may hear beautiful voices singing in the distance. Don’t trust them."
once again, jokes on you game, i play with sound off
  • -If you’re solo, never fight an Atlantean crew unless there is an island you can fight on. Trying to fight an Atlantean on top of your ship is downright miserable, and nearly impossible if you cant use your attacks in the water.
With the absolutely phenomenal changes of not being able to damage Atlanteans through walls (though they can still damage you through them) most of your attacks will hit a ship part and not do any damage because there will always be a tiny part between the hitbox and Atlantean.
Combine this with the fact that npcs don’t have realistic stat builds and have infinite stamina means that the Atlantean will mostly spam 200+ damage placed explosions that are as large as your ship.
If you aggro an Atlantean as you sink the ship, it will swim after you forever. The only solution is to find an island and try to fight it.
Also, the Atlantean line of sight damage change is reverted in 1.14.10, so avoid them until that patch comes out.

  • Clearsight is a must IMO, your view is hard capped by black sphere that surrounds you and clearsight removes it. You can easily farm high quality clearsight regeants by destroying rocks in titan caverns.

  • As of right now, you shouldn’t bother with islands in the 0 range, they rarely have any chests unless they’re tall islands

  • You can climb infinitely by using an ability once you run out of stamina (ie shooting a blast), you’ll regenerate stamina while you’re attacking. This will also usually make a hole in the wall you’re climbing which you can stand in to recharge stamina and air movement, and if its deep enough it will remove water poisoning.

  • If you’re not max jewel crafting or brewing, collect thorn flowers; they’re plentiful and they’re high quality so they give more xp.

  • If you’re solo and find a siren island, there is usually a rock at the top of the island that you can rotate around and aggro the sirens one at a time if you’re careful. Fighting 1 is leagues easier than fighting 3.

  • IMO, going past range 1 as solo isn’t worth it. The Atlanteans are ridiculously strong and it takes an absorbent amount of time to sail there and back.

  • Following the single ghosts ships will usually lead you to a lost cargo which is good for repairs, the ghost fleets that have 3 ships don’t lead you to anything I’m pretty sure.

  • never park your boat facing towards an island in case you need to make a quick get away.

Ill continue to add to this when i think of more

One more thing, know when you need to get out of dark sea
if your ship has low durability and no cargos ship repair supplies left, you need to leave dark sea asap or you can risk sunk atlantean ship for Repair(if you got Howitzer on your brig it even better since you can just encircle atlantean ship and spam heavy explosive cannon round)
if you have no revives make sure to leave dark sea before it too late(assuming you sail with other players)
One more thing is Survivability

Unless you’re certain that you can get back to your ship

DON’T GO INTO THE WATERS.

There is a singular quote that best summarizes the attitude you should have regarding risk-taking while solo in the Dark Sea:

Since there’s a new update with new content for the Dark Sea, the guide may need some adjustements and also add more things so…
