As title says, debate category
Essentially,
a category where off-topic/on-topic posts can be discussed with some exemption from rule 7,
"General Rule 7
7. Do not discuss political, religious or any other similarly controversial topics unrelated to World of Magic. These types of discussions typically do not end well and are usually contentious. Having a username or profile picture inspired by a political/religious figure (as long as the figure is not controversial) is permitted, however."
however, this would only apply if,
- the topic isn’t nsfw
- the topic doesn’t devolve into pointless bickering
- the topic isn’t religious or critical of religion
- the topic isn’t derogatory
- the topic stays on track
Many discussions have to get shut down on the forum or in the discord,
and with some events, there isn’t anywhere in the community to discuss without solely being in DMs.
Lets say someone wanted to talk about a presidential debate, climate change, or other controversial yet safe for work topics;
they typically get stopped by mods, be it in the forum or discord
The category would ideally be restricted to TL2 in order to ensure the rules are somewhat followed,
and would thus allow opinion and discussion on “controversial” topics in a more organized manner.
The category could also be an incentive not to bring up controversial topics in other categories,
as there would be a place for it,
additionally, topics turning into arguments could be moved to the category, rather than solely shut down.
