Proposal

This is basically just getting a deckhand from a quest instead of from bounty or fame

Details/background on your proposal

you are able to get deckhands through another method pretty much and maybe they can be better or worse than bounty/fame deckhands

Reason to add/change

You are able to get the master alchemist and the other dude i forgot his name but why not deckhands, and maybe there are deckhands like this but i feel like deckhands that need fame are hard to get because of npc accidental combat logs and gaining fame because with bounty you can kinda just ravage a town while with fame you have to hunt stuff down and do quests

this also has a high chance of already existing already (like most my other posts because idk what in or isn’t in the game)

Maybe add these requirements:

  • Beat him in a duel
  • Pay them
  • Cook them a meal with x hunger
  • Have a reinforced / fortified ship
  • Prove your power by possessing rare abilities (rare Spell/technique/weapon : 3pts, exotic 4pts, legendary 5pts, etc. Common is worth nothing and uncommon is worth 1pt. Must have a certain amount of pts to recruit. So if an npc needs 6pts and you have axe slash and vindicator equipped, you can recruit him

This seems super cool actually, it’ll allow players to focus on other aspects of the game rather than grinding fame over time, this shouldn’t be super overused though, only in special cases and such

overall the fame requirements for getting deckhands are way way too high.
I mean honestly, why do these guys want no less than 200k fame 99% of the time?

One time I saw a deckhand that required 800k fame to get for 5 speed.
who HAS that much fame outside of the leaderboard players.

Honestly, this would be a nice feature. I tend to switch my fame a lot between Hero and Villain, so I never really focus on fame farming.

You can alr get deckhands from quests tho such as Edward Kenton and the wizard from frostmill so there’ll probs be more in future updates

then need to seriously reduce the requirements bruh

those are quartermasters

I totally agree that the current deckhand system is flawed. However, deckhand quests would basically retrace the steps that the quest system in WoM was, where you’re going across the map to kill one person, then go back for your reward. Plus this would de-incentivize gaining high renown even more.

I think that instead, we should keep some deckhands requiring high levels of renown to recruit, along with other deckhands that ask for “trades” to join. Basically, they would require a number of items to be given to recruit them (ex. requires 26 pine cones, 2 pearls, & 1 colossal clam)

700k renown for 3 wind resistance

What’s the difference i dont really get the shop system?

yes

deckhands are randomly generated and you can get multiple
meanwhile quarter masters are more of a co-captain, and you can only get one

Deckhands are a pain in the ass to get, especially if you dont want to farm 600-700k fame for a legendary upgrade. Maybe you could recruit your rivals as a deckhand as well.

Also to those that are confused, Edward Kenton and Enizor are (currently to my knowledge) the only QUARTER MASTERS in the game. They’re different from Deck hands. Deck hands are the RNG NPCs you can find and recruit/upgrade, and Quarter Masters are the NPCs you recruit and can interact with (Edward for a quest to upgrade him, Enizor for enchants). Crew members are also different from Deck hands, since they’re an upgrade and not actual interactable people.

This could be a thing because there is this magic person at sailors lodge looking for rare techniques. also imagine having shura or iris as quartermaster

I agree everything about this post , the current deckhand req is just too grindy

Honestly, the bigger problem w/ deckhands right now is there’s almost no point in getting a deckhand that’s a higher rank than Amateur/Rookie/Novice/whatever the lowest rank is
You get a miniscule bonus for upgrading and you need 2x the renown as previous (250k! for a barely noticeable change, and not noticeable in many cases)
