Different languages

I know that some form of ancient language and writings exist in arcane odyssey

But do the different cultures and kingdoms have any sort of language barrier?
Like lets say Ravenna people speak Latin and so.
For gameplay purposes this can’t happen, but it would be weird for the war seas to all speak english

According to vetex we all canonically speak greek

God, I can’t escape it, no, no, NOOOO-

We do?
Turkey man once again not thinking things through, it makes no sense everyone speaks greek because greece was trampled by rome who was trampled by barbarians but ok

The greek language didn’t go away though, became pretty big in the eastern part of the Roman empire. Pretty sure barbarians didn’t sack Greece either at least not like they did the western Roman empire, and the AU timeline diverts well before they show up anyways.

True, but still, Visigoth armor set does exist, and Visigoths, the western Goths, escaped before the Hunnic invasion that obliterated Ostrogoths. They sought refuge in the eastern Roman empire, who did a shoddy job, and then the Visigoths rebelled and killed an emperor before leaving.

I wish we’d get more actual lore and explanations instead of just random scraps, “its magic energy”, “its the same as in our universe” or “its different because the timeline diverts”

That doesn’t really get rid of the greek language, but it looks like it had spread already well before that anyways, when the greeks got magic in the AU, if that still even happened in the AU. If there is an issue with the greek language being so dominant here it has nothing to do with it’s still existing by the point humanity gets magic. Especially since that’s a time when it was already pretty dominant in the surrounding areas.

I know I know he said Italian instead of latin it’s the end of the world, but overall I think this is a fine enough way for things to work.

Oh… It’s confirmed to be Ravennan

The War Seas are probably too small of a region for big language barriers

also doesn’t change the fact that at the time 100AD when athens became the brithplace of magic hundreds of poeple likely flocked their in search of power, learning the language whilst become practicing the arts

also allat happened after 100AD the whole visigoths sacking rome may not have even happened

Honestly, would be very cool if at some point in the plot we had to contact some populace that speaks a foreign language and we have to look for a translator to interact with them or sum like that

Necrobump but unironically this is the musical my schools theatre company is doing next year and yours truly will be in it
