Introduction
Disclaimer/Trigger Warning: I am about to bash and praise both sides, so mentally prepare yourself for what i’m going to say and take everything in this post with a grain of salt.
NOTE THAT SOME OF THE SCREENSHOTS ARE FROM ARCANE REBORN
It’s time to take off the nostalgia goggles and put on the logical ones and make a comparison between AA and CURRENT WoM. This isn’t a WoM rant nor is it a complaining/rant thread and I don’t want it to be, instead we’re going to take a serious look at what both games excel and fail at and compare them. I am aware that it is unfair to compare a completed game to a game that is not even 2% done, but I believe that WoM will surpass AA (it already has imo) and I will update this thread the further WoM gets into development. Please post your thoughts into the comments!..without it devolving into a flame war : )
NPCS (Civilians)
This is a WoM NPC:
A WoM NPC has a randomized culture, first and last name. They are able to walk around (sort of) have quests that are random which range from starter, novice, apprentice (for now). They can also react to danger, to OTHER npcs, and be killed. They can also have randomized jobs (metalworker/alchemist/tailor/smith/fishmonger) to do business with the player. Appearance is also randomized and they have somewhat unique dialogue based on the personality type given to them…which is also random.
This is an Arcane Adventures NPC (Screenshot from Arcane Reborn):
NPC’s in Arcane Adventures are…fixed to say the least. They have a rooted position and do not move, with fixed names and fixed dialogue. They are capable of having quests, but they are not randomly generated. Quests from these NPC’s are fixed side quests. They do not react to danger and cannot be killed. NPC’s that run shops are also fixed and are unchanging.
My Thoughts: I think WoM NPC’s are better as a whole. You are free to disagree and I can see it from your side. The NPC’s in Arcane Adventures are fun to talk to as you as know it’s going to be a different conversation with each NPC, not the same dialogue based on “personality”. But alas, they don’t do anything more than that. WoM NPC’s are far more immersive due to the fact that they can REACT to what is happening around them, but they are SO random that it almost un-immerses the player. If you combine the fixed-ness of AA and the “self-awareness” of WoM NPC’s, we’re going to have some god tier NPC’s.
NPCS (Enemies)
Examples of WoM Enemies:
Enemies in WoM are randomly generated and randomly spawning. As of 9/2/2020, the non-boss enemies that WoM have are bounty hunters/Bandits/DarkWizards/Pirates/Mercenaries/MC Scouts/MC Guards/MC Comissioners/MC captains (They are strong but are not bosses)/and King-David-Silver.
These enemies are very similar in the way they function. I would even go as far as to say copy and paste. Dark Wizards are functionally similar to MC Scouts plus all the other ranks, with randomly generated magics, spells, and spell names. With the exception of king david silver, he is the only preset NPC in the game as of right now. (Not counting Minotaur/Exiled as they randomly spawn).
Bandits are the same as pirates/mercenaries/and bounty hunters.
Most, if not, all enemies in WoM Can have quests, attack and react to other NPC’s, and cause threats on/Defend towns. Much like civilians, these npc’s also have a “personality type” and can have varying dialogue based on that…again, with the exception of KDS, who has fixed dialogue but can say more than one paragraph over and over. These NPCs also say stuff when they notice you.
The AI that these NPC’s have is…a mix of annoying and phenomenal. They can run up to you to get in range and PREDICT WHERE YOU’RE GOING WHEN THEY AIM. They can spam T-Jump and do everything that a normal player can.
Examples of AA Enemies:
AA Enemies are ruthless and kind of dumb. They don’t say anything when they notice you, nor can they have quests or dialogue. Instead of always predicting the shot, they aim straight at you or sprint at you with full speed. Sometimes both. (like the guard in the picture).
AA Enemies are not random. They spawn and respawn in fixed locations with some level variation. Non-Boss enemies in AA include: Crazy Wizards/Alalea Guards/Gunslingers (oh no)/Wasted pirates/Bandits/Those undead warriors in Kairo/Emerald Skull Pirates/And probably more I forgot.
They cannot kill or react to other NPC’s and instead gang up on the players, this can make them decently challenging despite their 1 track mind.
My Thoughts: Again, WoM Takes this one. WoM Enemies may be copy and paste, and while that’s disappointing AA’s Enemies are not much better. AT LEAST the enemies in WoM can react to and kill other NPC’s. They can also predict you and give the player a decent challenge if they aren’t over leveled. But if there’s one thing that AA Enemies have over WoM’s, it’s that they are simple and not as complicated. While that’s the same reason why they’re worse, hear me out.
No random shit. You know where they are and how to farm them, in WoM it’s a constant gamble if you’re even going to find enemies in the wilderness without a quest tracking them. But other than that, WoM Wins in the Enemy department IN MY OPINION.
Exploration And World
WoM:
World of Magic Takes place over 1,000 years after AA on a Massive continent. The continent is fully destructible (as seen with boss battles, it looks like a nuke hit). Currently, not much of the continent is done, and it has ancient ruins and wreckages. It is spammed all over with trees, rocks, and bushes. Also did I mention trees? There are clearings for bosses, minibosses, and camps to spawn. There are also chest hotspots which help the player in their grind. The continent will eventually be universed as there is no way a roblox server can handle the continent all in one place.
The continent has a basic look to it, rumor has it that the design was based off of older roblox PVP games.
AA:
AA Takes place right after the accidental Resurrection of the player, and the destruction of the world…(read the lore if you are confused).
Instead of a continent, AA takes place on an open sea, where ships are used for fast and efficient travel. A recurring boss that can commonly get in the players way is the kraken, which is just nightmare fuel if you are under level 100. Every island is different, different NPC’s, chests hotspots, and quests/shops. There was also “chests” that could be found in the sea called cargo. The world of AA has been universed (divided) and the first/second/third sea are “different games” but connected, which reduced lag. Destruction in AA is meh. Things are destructible but nothing actually collapses, just a cloud of dust and poof it’s gone, with the exception of the buildings in Alalea which collapse in a WoM fashion. (Correct me if I’m wrong). The upside to this is that there is less lag and my PC isn’t crying when destruction happens.
You could even learn fighting styles from different islands.
My Thoughts: AA Takes this one. Currently, travelling around WoM is a pain the the ass. It’s a beautiful continent, but sometime I just want to get from point A to point B. I am aware that flight spells are coming soon, but i’m comparing current WoM. The ships in AA were really efficient, and while getting them destroyed by rkers and the kraken is NOT fun, I always enjoyed riding around with total strangers to islands we’ve never seen before, and those strangers became my gaming buddies eventually. While destruction in WoM is REALLY neat and realistic, it kills my laptop, but AA’s destruction doesn’t (it has collapsing buildings too if you go to savaria/Alalea).
Magic And Attacks
WoM UI:
In WoM, you have unlockable moves that you can slightly customize. You can change the explosion/blast size/amount/and name of your attacks to suit your playstyle. While it is sort of fixed and copy-paste (since every magic can do the same thing), it allows the player to adjust the preset spells to their liking and make it sound cool. You also get to CHOOSE and customise how your ultimate will be, but again, we’re talking about current WoM and ultimates are currently not a factor.
Magics in WoM also have synergy and can clash with one another. Usually, heavier magics are the winner in clashes, are slower, and deal more damage. Vice versa for non-solid magics. An example of said synergy would be Snow and Wind magic hitting the same target and freezing it. Speaking of snow, world of magic currently has 23 magics. Some of those magics were planned to be mutations in AA such as plasma, but AA never got that far due to roblox forcing filtering enabled on everything, breaking AA.
AA UI
:Magics in AA have unlockable skills that you…can’t customize. Every magic does nearly the same thing, with an E/F grab, a Z shield, A Q shot, they aren’t very unique. The status effects most of them share are DOT, with the exception of light/wind and water. There Is synergy in AA, but it’s really only between Lightning and Water, which was a busted combo. There are 7 magics in AA;
Water, Fire, Earth, Air, Light, Shadow, and lightning.
Each one had fixed moves with a fixed ultimate unlocked at level 100, 200 if said magic was your second. Unlike WoM which is planned to progress magic through tiers such as mastery and awakened, AA has tiers 1-5 with 5 being the strongest. This increased with your magic level, something WoM doesn’t have yet.
My Thoughts: WoM Wins in this department by a landslide imo. Both games have fixed movesets for magics and they do the same thing, but WoM gives players the ability to CUSTOMIZE. Not only that, there are far more magics than before (most which were planned to be mutations) and there are more status effects than just DOT and more synergy than just Lighting/Water. I do Miss AA beam struggles, they were epic and adrenaline pumping but they were intrusive to fighting.
Enchanting
WoM:
In WoM, you can get enchanted items in 3 ways. Either enchant them at an alchemist, or find them enchanted through chests and fishing. There are a myriad of different enchants that you can find in the game which boost different stats. Unlike AA, we have far more stats than just power/Defense, but at the moment, that doesn’t even matter rn. Currently power/defense dominate the WoM Meta, so people are CRUSHED when they don’t get the enchant they want. It’s completely up to RNGesus, and that’s no good. Enchanting is also expensive which just adds to peoples fustration.
AA: No picture for this soz
AA’s enchanting…AA doesn’t even have enchanting. The only way to get an enchanted item in that game is to find it that way weather it be chests or fishing…which leaves it up to RNG. The only stats that were buffed in that game were power and defense and the only varied enchants were STRONGER variants of weaker enchants, which boost power and defense.
My Thoughts: Inconclusive. Both sides have an awful enchant system. I will admit that WoM giving us the ability to enchant is great! But it is far to unreliable to be any better than how AA “enchanting” was. Both of them rely super heavily on RNG.
Boss Battles
WoM Bosses:
^ Died there btw. The bosses in WoM are significant to the story and are “wandering”. This means that they do not have a fixed spawn location and instead have a chance to spawn in wilderness clearings. They are reasonably challenging and fun to fight imo. The exiled is difficult, no questions asked. WoM Bosses are encountered through the games storyline and can drop EVERYTHING on them with a 1/10 chance. Problem is, chance is never really 1/10.
If you’re fighting these guys, it’s usually in a group. When fighting these bosses in a group, their HP goes up to prevent “carries” and to maintain difficulty. The drop chance also goes down and becomes dependent on how much damage you dealt to the boss. The bosses will attack you on sight if you are opposite of their reputation, they will not attack you if you are the same reputation as them, unless attacked.
WoM Bosses have unique dialogues and backstories as well. The destruction of the ground during our battle with them only makes it more intense! They are also the first NPCs in WoM with death lines.
AA Bosses:
Bosses in AA are fixed and cannot be interacted with. They are all unique, have their own arena, and have lore/story significance. They will attack you on sight REGARDLESS of reputation. Most bosses in AA have drops but they don’t drop everything they wear. Theos sadly doesn’t drop anything. HP Does not go up with more people fighting them and drop chance doesn’t decrease. Bosses in AA are also reasonably challenging and fun to fight, especially Theos. Maura with his force choke and Ramses with his sand tornadoes are just plain unfair though, not sure how we were supposed to defeat them at the intended level.
AA Bosses Respawn quickly for efficient farming.
My Thoughts: Both games have great bosses with banger themes, but in my eyes, WoM absolutely takes this. While the drop chance decreasing is stupid, the bosses are extremely fun to fight and aren’t TOO difficult. Not to mention, they can drop every. single. thing. they. wear. AA Bosses are fun to fight as well, but I really can’t get over ramses and maura. Bosses in AA are 100% fixed so WoM bosses already have more personality. But that’s also where AA has an advantage. Since the bosses are fixed in AA you won’t have to worry about a boss NOT being there when you need them. But other than that, WoM has better bosses so far.
Fishing
WoM Fishing:
Fishing in WoM is decent. There are many different types of fish you can catch based on location and time of day. There is also a fishing journal which records your catches! As always you need a bait and a rod to fish. There are currently three rods in the game, the standard wooden rod, bronze rod for luring in fish, and the collectors rod for better item chance. All rods are enchantable and these enchants can make the rod better at a particular niche, i.e magnetic collectors rod.
Fish can be caught in several different forms which are regular, small, giant, and golden. All of these except small bump up the rarity and worth of the fish. Just like AA, there are Sunken items that can be fished up with a 1/2000 chance. 1/8000 for a SPECIFIC item since it’s a four piece set. The highlight of the sunken set is undoubtedly the sunken sword as it’s extremely versatile. Fish rot 1 irl day after being caught, drastically decreasing their value. This is to keep the game’s economy from inflating.
AA:
Fishing in AA is an excellent way to earn lamina. There are tons of types of fish to catch, and instead of sitting in your inventory and rotting if you don’t sell them, they are instantly sold the moment you catch them. AA does not have a fishing journal, so you may forget what type of fish are even in the game. Fishing in AA grants Strength level and exp in addition to lamina, you can also fish up items just like in WoM.
There are five rods in AA. The wooden rod, lure rod, silver rod, magnet rod, and the gold rod. The magnet rod was by far the most popular due to it’s high item chance and assisted people grinding for magic weapons and sunken champion. Sunken champion can be fished up with a rate of 1/40k, which is absolutely insane. Though it was quite common. There is a level 120 version of the set called sunken warrior. You could also fish in lava! AA didn’t have many forms of fish that you could catch though.
My Thoughts: AA wins albiet slightly. Here’s the thing. In WoM, I fish for the sake of fishing. You have to remember that sunken was made for fishing and that fishing wasn’t made for sunken. If you fish only for sunken, you will get fustrated. It’s a good thing that WoM has a fishing journal, because honestly I couldn’t remember what kind of fish existed in AA. It’s a good thing that fish are seperated based on location and are more diverse. They also can be caught in many different forms but even with the buff fish receive in worth from that, there isn’t alot of profit from it. At least fishing in AA was rewarding in the money department.
tl;dr - AA’s fishing was more rewarding and profitable despite it’s lack of extra features like the fishing journal.
Economy
WoM:
The currency of WoM, the “crown”. Used to do business in trading/enchanting/upgrading/buying/everything. Serves as a replacement for lamina. Rumor has it that 1 crown = 100 lamina. As of 9/10/20, the crown cap for players is 1,400. This is something that AA did not have, this was probably done to prevent inflation. The bank is also not yet functional.
AA:
AA had two currencies, Lamina and Aurem. Lamina was mainly used for business, Aurem was the secondary currency. You can honestly compare Aurem to “Gems” in mobile games. Lamina is a silver coin while Aurem was a gem that people used to sacrifice to prometheus (when he was still alive) in exchange for power. The two of these currencies were super inflated.
My Thoughts: WoM by an absolute landslide. I get it, WoM is just getting it’s feet wet and we don’t have a fleshed out economy yet. But WoM’s market is in much better shape than AA’s market could ever hope to be. Lamina at a certain point didn’t feel like it had value unless I was expanding the guild hall with guildmates. Currently WoM’s bank isn’t functional, while AA has the somehow omnipresent entity known as nicholas.
Closing Remarks
That’s everything…If you read all of that you are a LIVING LEGEND. This took about an hour and a half to make (probably longer) and a lot of game hopping. Thank you for reading, please share your thoughts below and have a nice day : )
Pending Comparisons
Law Enforcement: This ones a must, But I will not do this until the MC is joinable
Fighting Styles: Once WoM gets fighting styles
Storyline: Didn’t do this now because I felt that it wasn’t fair to compare the prologue to a fleshed out story. Will wait until after second magic update.
Weapons: Sometime in the future
Final Verdict: Once all of the above are finished, I will add this to closing remarks about which game I think is outright better.

Post Updates
10/11/20 - Added the sources I used to make this post possible and added the post update tab
Renamed the title to “Pre-TGR WoM vs AA” because I won’t be updating this post anymore due to the total game revamp. I would have to go back and re-do everything and I’m not dedicated enough for that. But if someone wants to pick up where I left off and do “Post TGR WoM vs AA”, be my guest! Alot of my opinions have changed as well.
