*### Clarification on our approach to age assurance

We’ve seen some questions about our age assurance update and we want to share more clarity. We know how important these changes are to our community.

Here’s what we want you to know:

  • Discord is not requiring everyone to complete a face scan or upload an ID to use Discord.
  • The vast majority of people can continue using Discord exactly as they do today, without ever being asked to confirm their age.

You need to be an adult to access age-restricted experiences such as age-restricted servers and channels or to modify certain safety settings.

Yup you absolutely right. There is no need for id and stuff but we saw what happen with steam and itch.io.

I mean the pattern is already there. I dont know where OP get the time but believe me, it will come.

Another alternative is Valour.

It’s still in its early stages and has some wack crap with navigation, but it’s manageable.

Also to clarify my opinion about age verification and all that (as an edit so as not to flood this topic)

My absolute limit is

  • Age verification only to access adult content because quite frankly I believe it is evil
  • Upon verifying, all information about you is IMMEDIATELY deleted and not sent to anyone, or, at the very least, it is clearly displayed to the user that it is either not deleted or sent to a third party

Anything more invasive than that is a no-go in my eyes, which is why I still do have a problem with especially Roblox’s implementation of it

Roblox right now is on par with steam in term of credibility. By credibility, I mean credibility among their main customer, which is children..children dont care about data leak cuz they thought they aint got no money me people wont chase them.

pretty sure this will only affect you if youre in any gooner servers, which you will need ID to access since its nsfw

you’re misunderstanding it
they wont force you to give ur face when you open the app, they’ll use your previous chat history to estimate if you’re a teen or an adult
if you get lower than 18 then you have to verify for access to 18+ servers
still really stupid though never give your id to these companies or face because its biometric data and you cant change it like a password. it may get leaked.

This isn’t what’s happening - but regardless, protest any and all attempts to de-anonymise the internet and collect your data. I’ve already cancelled any payments I was making to discord, I suggest everyone else does the same, the only time a souless corp like this ever listens is if you hit them in their wallets. If they don’t, well, stoat is a promising alternative so far

This will just lead to another hilarious situation like on youtube where people just kept spamming ‘adult’ keywords (alcohol, taxes, politics, economy, etc etc) to trick the bot into putting them in the 18+ age group
