Do you think everyone in the War Seas speaks english?

I was thinking about it

The chances of that being true doesn’t exist

Highly doubt it given the fact that the war seas is probably based on eurasia. Still hope for there to be a nation inspired on england I guess

highly likely not
pretty sure english was chosen because the majority of the world can speak english

I might be wrong, but I could’ve sworn Theos or Acheron were British/lived in England and Acheron nuked the area around there so… Chances are England might be the Epicenter. Could just be faulty memory though.

You’re basically correct if only slightly off

i wanna see different languages get incorporated into world design and lore in general

like Ravennan society in it’s early days speaking exclusively latin (because theyre roman) but over centuries they ended up losing their language and began speaking greek instead. You’d be able to see latin writing on very old ruins originally built or settled by Ravenna (or whatever it was during those times), your character would also mention not being able to read it if you tried to interact with the writing

thats just 1 example but a lot could be done with languages in AO’s worldbuilding

I was about to say that I headcanon that everyone speaks Greek, but then I saw

Hehehehehe

For once, my delusions are actually true.

god i hope not
i won’t go into it but english just isn’t even a thing
if i know my history

So there is a different Sea Cluster out there that speaks spanish?

It’s pretty unlikely, given that Spanish was derived from Latin, which given Rome had far less impact on the world would not have spread as far as it did in real life. Also Spanish emerged in the 13th century, so after both the introduction of magic and The Fracturing, meaning there’s very little chance of it ever developing.

Granted, that can be said of practically all languages that are derived from Latin. Though true Old English may have been in an infant state at some point in the AU’s history. Depending on if Rome ever invaded Britain and it’s surroundings. Which given that Theos was from Dunwich seems to be the case.

what are you speaking now then

greek was formed like 150 BC
english wasn’t even a thing during 150 BC

the fracture happened around 1000 AD though (give or take a few hundred years), english was a thing

old english was a thing when the fracture happened

but “modern english” in AO realistically would be unrecognizable to real english because of the fracture

the influences on english over time post-fracture would be entirely different basically
