I don’t mean to attack vetex as a person, but from what I seen in the forums, it seems like stuff from fall damage to the bosses in the new chapters not being well telegraphed and dark sea rifts complaints at best get ignored or vetoed and at worst has vetex actively attacking people for being worried about certain additions (or in the case of 2024, how PvP players actively complained about the combat system and in response vetex publicly told them to fuck off)
This is a very worrying pattern. Does vetex want to write a book or does he want to make a immersive gaming experience?
At least according to meta, vetex is very stubborn when it comes to making changes. Like you have to put constant pressure on him if you want even the chance of a change making in
He calls his players crybabies for complaining about fall damage (I think it was fall damage?) yet bitches often about his players being bitchy. Who would’ve known the platform targeted towards whiny and braindead children would have whiny and braindead children?
There was a meme where someone told vetex that he can’t get a girlfriend because he’s so defensive with vetex responding with a paragraph (marked as getting defensive)
He also falls for basic ragebait far too often, among other things
I would joke, but stuff like this makes him rather hard to approach in person. Meta mentioned that he is very stubborn too. And what the hell was he being so defensive regarding getting a girlfriend mentioned a few messages down? Vetex looks like a walking pr disaster ATM.
I could say something like “hey, can you make it so sunkens aren’t the be all end all of gear, or better yet, make it so it’s actually on par if not slightly better then boss drops because it really isn’t fun needing to lean on rng to edge out your opps assuming you are equal skill and currently it also reduces build variation to revolve around one or 2 pieces of gear that is currently very rng heavy” and if there isn’t a rant against it I am lucky(or at least i think i would based on this limited information)
(Then again, the community also holds the opinion that a luck based obtainment method for the best armour statwise in the game is not problematic, when I think it’s flawed design and only serves as padding at best and a pain point at worst especially if content ever becomes a stat check)
As much as I love Vetex for his work, his behavior is what is the biggest problem with feedback for AO, the fact that he suspends based on feelings in the first place is downright awful, even if the suspended user was a notorious ragebaiter.
Though, that isn’t the main problem with the feedback; he focuses far too greatly on lore, to the point where he decides features based on lore instead of game feeling and feedback.
I heavily doubt Vetex will react to this post, but if the slight chance that he does; Please rethink how you behave, and I mean that with concern, not hate.
I dunno from what ive seen he only gets super defensive when someone is being rude, if someone just asks politely for a change or asks a question he seems chill enough
for the record there are several new armors that are either equal to or surpass sunken in efficiency that do not rely on rare rng (namely imbued arcanium, omen set and the kraken band)
Hence the “write a book” statement I made on the initial post. I am personally more of a game then story person, and yes I am aware he wants to write a book for AO. He needs to balance between the game and the story, and writing a book just makes the rope thinner, because a game and a storybook are two different mediums of storytelling and striking one that is good for both is more painful then just focusing on one.
Just go the FNAF route, make the games with a good enough relation to the lore, and then write books that contain an incredible amount of lore without hindering the games much.
I know we give Vetex a lot of shit, but a lot of our admiration for his work goes unsaid, and we wouldn’t be here if we didn’t want to see Arcane Odyssey improve and succeed
We get upset at flaws we perceive in this game because we want it to be as good as it can be, not out of spite or hatred
Of course there’s much more nuance to this than just saying “we can all be nice to each other :)”, but I just don’t want him to see criticism as an attack on him
