Dragons, huh?

Dragons, currently, are mid at best. Among other issues, I’ll outline these two: fighting them as strength classes & the fact that they are described as “intelligent” despite acting up like feral… uh. Whatever.

Berserkers vs Dragons

It… sucks. You only have 2 ranged moves, and getting in close range is a death sentence. The fight devolves to spamming axe slash and shot. While the new patch note did add some new ranged moves, it would be weird to only have dragons be playable for strength classes with very specific techniques, while other classes can, more or less, fight them with their basekits.

Here’s my idea: throwing rocks.[1]

If a strength class is nearby a dragon[2], the dragon’s attacks will summon giant rocks of rubble imbued with their magic[3] . Young dragons wouldn’t be able to create these rocks. As a strength class, you can pick up one of these rocks and chuck them at the dragon, dealing damage and poise damage.[4]

After chucking enough rocks at the dragon, the dragon will be poise broken, allowing you to riposte them for big damage. [5]

I believe this would make the dragon fight way more fun for strength classes, while also reusing poise breaks.

Dragon’s “intelligence”

Apparently, the lore says that dragons are intelligent and can communicate telepathically. You wouldn’t know this if you played the game, the only thing they do is fight you. So I propose that we get the ability to spare dragons.

When a non-corrupted, non-mythical, non-dragonlord dragon gets low, they will start to talk to you telepathically, begging for you to spare their life. If you stop attacking the dragon, then they will open a secret passage in the middle of the dragon’s arena, and then they will fly away. The passage will lead to a treasure room with piles of gold, chests and DSCs. This makes sparing the dragons give you normal loot while forsaking the dragon loot completely.

You could also make it that they can only speak in dragon-language, and that to understand the dragon you would have to learn it. Maybe some schoral NPC could have a quest where you help him decypher it, maybe you would have to find a book in a secret on some island, maybe you would learn it through a new Athena’s wisdom page.

Maybe this would also give you the ability to approach dragons without starting a fight, letting you ask them some questions for more lore. Maybe.

  1. I have seen catapult, shh, this is diffirent ↩︎

  2. (or maybe they should do this all the time) ↩︎

  3. (or just normal rocks if they’re low tier) ↩︎

  4. (maybe you would have to fling these rocks with your abilities instead of picking them up) ↩︎

  5. (maybe you could have a cool animation for riposting, maybe you could have it change between different fighting styles) ↩︎

aren’t these specifically the dragons that CAN’T use telepathy? :sob:

Now for berserker, I think the class is kinda destined to suck ass because it is designed as a majorly cqc statchecker in a game where every relevant enemy is designed to just aim their attacks at you like a player and will absolutely kick your ass in cqc

The rock mechanic is cool but I think it’s a bit of a bandaid fix for a single enemy type while the entire game is extra hostile towards strength

“Some lesser[dragons can still be found in the Dark Sea - wild, young dragons who cannot speak to humans or use magic, and are often killed by larger predators or the Dark Sea’s rain. Most of the older, most powerful dragons keep to themselves in the Dragon Sea, tending to Typhon and repopulating their race.”

Oops, I forgot about this part. Uh. No comment

We won’t get it untill 2077 and thats IF we do sadly.

can you not draw the dragon like that bro

We can dream

Never seen the word scholar botched like this

Also most dragons in the DS are insane/not mentally well

Throwing rocks is probably the most balanced way of giving strength builds a much needed leg up in terms of fighting dragons. It’s kinda like the star spit from the Kirby series, except it functions as method of creating an opportunity to attack which is basically a necessity for strength builds

An for intelligence, I do like the premise of being able to communicate with dragons for more lore, but I feel like the execution of this idea could be better. Drachma, chests, and DSCs don’t feel like a fair trade off for a potential permanent buff, but at least the location of the loot on a Dragon’s arena is shown to the player(s) (I’ve seen chests and DSCs spawn on top of a single wall segment of the arena)
