didn’t I bring it up first
also shouldnt the poll say “do you LIKE dynamic npcs” because its a pretty minor feature
Well no but I think they are cool as hell now that they getting added
what dis
on second thought capitalizing the polls like I do suggestion titles does NOT work lol.
the dynamic NPCs from wom are getting added back but this time he actually optimized them
If you were around for WoM, then you’re familiar with dynamic NPCs.
We’re trying to figure out if anybody cares about them/wants them back
If Vetex wasn’t the one in charge I would be fine with it, but I guess 500 more memory leaks won’t hurt
that’s like, a 3% increase in the total right now
I love that they are returning. I did miss them, but I thought that he had good reasons to remove them. Now that he has found a way to incorporate them into the game, I’m very happy that they are being added back. Especially for when the Alignment update finally gets added.
Aren’t memory leaks caused by server side interactions? Since the NPCs are client side, shouldn’t it be impossible for them to cause memory leaks? I could be wrong…
unless vetex fucks up the despawning code for them entering houses/their torches at night, I don’t see what could cause them.
I think this is just doomerism
I remember seeing people wishing it was back a while ago but I can’t quite remember who
I’m pretty sure memory leaks are client-side, that’s why it gets fixed when you rejoin
I just wish they didn’t have to be client sided
it can be both, server side memory leaks like weather stopping working and clientside memory leaks like the warlock imbuement bug
According to the internet, they can occur both server-side and client-side
I played World of Magic for the first time recently, and was genuinely surprised how well it was made. The dynamic NPCs really me for a loop, alongside how different the NPC AI was. I expected them to run into a wall & get stuck, but they ended up pathfinding a way out &.
All that to say, I do like the dynamic NPCs.
Yeah, found some documentation for lua saying that it happens for both, but is less common for client-side.
And then there is this:
And he has experience adding dynamic NPCs, and he says they perform well in-game. I don’t think the NPCs will cause memory leaks, but I was wrong about thinking that they were sever-exclusive.
its so fun to watch someone state an opinion as fact only to get it completely shattered when examined at all
