Erm what the stigma (gun talk)

as of the latest storyline quest, shady business, which takes place in December 14th, 1854, it has come to my attention that we have ZERO, FUCKING, LEVER ACTION RIFLES.

Erm actually-

Technology isnt accurate to irl 1854, i like to think the level of technological advancement is around the level of the 1600s or 1700s. there might be some more advanced tech somewhere that uses magic energy or arcanium but we havent seen any yet

not to mention the war seas is less advanced than the seven seas because everyone is too busy going to war with eachother

Im just going off what vetex said

why would we

you forget that vetex is the second coming of jesus christ

I’m fairly sure that’s not the case; the War Seas have shown further advancement in multiple ways, from their technology (sky ships and wider study of arcanium) to their powers (certain mutations becoming common base magics, more advanced imbuement & understanding of how it works)

Vetex also said the war seas are more advanced, not the other way around

nah we have arcanium as the technology and magic training, war seas is more magically advanced
“if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” in terms of warfare

yeah i would assume the seven seas would go “hey look at this cool new thing, we can burn coal for steam to power steam engines so our ships can go faster” while the war seas would go “yo lets use fire arcanium to make thrusters for our ships”

seven seas: hey look we can channel our magic through this metal, lets use it to make some weapons
war seas: “what if I slam this magic energy metal into another ship at 90 miles an hour”

war seas: “huh, if we channel lightning through this metal, it conducts it”

the seven seas:

Guns kinda pale in comparison to magic, spirit weapons, and especially curses so there’s not much reason for non magic weapons development. Especially when even non magic users can still perform extreme super human feats. There’s was also an event like 800 years prior to the game where everything basically exploded and the vast majority of humanity died, so I’d imagine a decent chunk of technological progress was lost during that period. Not enough to set them back to the stone age, but clearly enough to set them back like 200 years(The AU calendar is offset by like 100 years because its starts at around 100AD which is when magic was given to humans, so the actual year is like 1954).

If they both survive then yeah, but with the immense destructive power of magic and curses it wouldn’t be surprising if a lot of kingdoms and nations totally decimated each other leaving few survivors to rebuild and a lot of knowledge lost.

arcane odyssey players desperately trying to explain every historical inaccuracy with lore:

Well tbf by this point we’re past the major deviation from the irl timeline so there’s no real need for it to be historically accurate anymore. I think that line was crossed when humans started getting magic powers.

nah everyone has magic powers but you, we just hide them so you don’t feel bad

The bronze, iron and gold muskets though :<

technology is even more off because we arent in irl 1854, we are in irl 1954! The time ao uses is in reference to the creation / gift of magic rather than the bible with y1 being around 100 ad

Gunsmithing is expensive they’re all too busy failing at controlling crime and fighting over cubes

Alright so, yes, technically within the year ao takes place we should have access to more advanced guns then we currently have

But that would be ignoring the fact that alot of technology initially started out as too expensive for general use. For example, flintlock guns took a long time to be used practically in wars due to the complexity of their design, requiring experts to create and maintain them which isn’t cheap. Now I couldn’t find anything online on how long it took for lever action rifles to be adopted by many but it’s safe to assume we can apply the same logic to them.

Of course that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be added to the game, rather it’d make more sense to have them as really rare weapons, either from a sunken/lost set or perchance as a boss drop

Yes, technology develops differently in a world where you can shoot balls of metal at somebody with just your hands and a circle

Also I believe AD starts at a slightly different time.
