I'm pretty sure anyone knows what Eurovision is but for the Americans that have never heard of it
As the name suggests it’s a European song contest where each country submits a song and they compete in a completely unbiased voting to win the crowd’s love
Except that each year the songs get progressively worse and no country cares for the production anymore and it’s just cheap garbage
But in all seriousness I have no clue this year because all of the songs sound the same, just see it for yourself
Then there’s something else I’d like to address - people are talking about banning Israel from Eurovision because Russia was banned as well
In my opinion banning countries because they go to war is dumb, Eurovision is supposed to stay a neutral podium to perform on and they shouldn’t bring politics up but that’s my own beliefs
Anyway, I’m just going to keep this as like an open discussion thread where anyone can come and rant or talk about who they think will win - and who deserves to lose really hard
You can technically say everyone except for the winner loses. Their song is almost always stereotypical, this year’s submission is literally called “mon amour”
Like nobody used this thread but after having watched Euro yesterday I can proudly say this is the biggest conspiracy, politically biased and LGBT favored year they had YET
I was surprised to see Ireland got that high since they literally performed a satanic ritual on-stage. If you haven’t watched that, I am seriously not kidding you you can look it up (don’t)
Netherlands got disqualified and the announcer didn’t wanna show up or something and when one of the guys at the arena took over the Netherlands announcer’s job everyone started booing like little children
-Not to mention how people booed literally anytime Israel got even a single point during the national voting.
And after all the guy that won was a fucking twink in a skirt, I was super surprised because when me and my friend watched some of the songs I was itching to turn his song off because it just sounded so harmonically out of place and had some super odd transitions

now Switzerland’s act was my favourite of this year. Sure Croatia was banger, everyone loves it. However Switzerland’s just beat it out for me. The artist literally performed Bohemian Rhapsody 2, the vocalisation is incredible and the song’s meaning comes to me personally.
the buildup to eurovision in the before hours was pure chaos and i basically watched it live
contestants coming left and right announcing things, like the French singer pausing his rehearsal to make a statement, the Irish singer not appearing at the rehearsal because they were talking to the EBU (assumingly about beforehand incidents with Israel)

in the end you could say Eurovision has lost its way. This year was way too politically-charged. Israel shouldn’t have been part of the competition in the first place but here we are…
Lithuania, Spain and Estonia got done pretty dirty
I am Israeli and I live in the Netherlands (this literally can’t get any worse) so obviously I have some biases. I would shit on the Dutch but they actually brought a pretty good song and it was sad they got fucking disqualified over (what presumably was) not wanting to be filmed.
I didn’t like Israels song too much but it was fine, it’s still undeniably good in terms of comparison but you can definitely call me biased for that I can’t blame anyone
I still don’t really like Switzerland even after rewatching because I genuinely forgot their song and went to sleep. But I think what made him win was the performance and how over the top it was. I don’t recall it being that “strong” when watching the videoclip before with a friend (infact, we turned the song off halfway lmfao).

My favorite Australia Performance of the last few years was some Opera singer swining around on a 4 meter long stick dressed up like the statue of liberty if someone poured glitter all over her
it was funny and that’s what made it good
people continue to watch Eurovision because it’s fun to watch, not fun to listen to (most of the time). I watched it knowing full well I was gonna shit on each song

This year they didn’t even get qualified, and their song was pretty nice too
When Switzerland showed up on the semifinals I had a feeling it would end top 5 at least. The guy dressed bit strange, but I commend him for at least doing most things alone (even if the circular table is pre-programmed to follow patterns)

What hurt me the most was televoting time, where the two countries at war get +300 points from the public BECAUSE they are at war, not due to their performance. ??? ??? ??? ¿¿?? (at least national jury had a brain)
I guess this contest isn’t to be taken seriously, it’s another form of entertainment.

Everybody fucking hated Israel lmao you could hear the entire audience booing everytime they got even a single point during the national jury votes
Israel did NOT get the points because of the war, otherwise they would’ve gotten <50. Some people say they got pity points but at the same time I would rather cancel a performance than have to perform in front of an audience that only screams boo.
The whole conspiracy behind the Dutch performer was that some woman was filming him when he clearly told her not to, she didn’t stop and he pulled some action against her but it was specified that he didn’t touch her. Anyway he got reported to the EBU and they started a police investigation, which ultimately led him to be disqualified for the finals as it would be unfit to have someone perform (and potentially win) who is also at the risk of a legal punishment
