So, updates here! Tried it for a few hours and am now willing to share my experiences on here! Apologies for any confusing english, i am not a native english speaker.
Clanbuilding was certainly something i had big expectations and worries in- most of said worries were sadly proven right, but let me put down the positives first.
- THE POSITIVES!
First of all, the categoriesations are quite nice.
It does take some time to figure out how to place stuff properly and how to align it, but the green and red outlines are a good help with such- wish we could properly attach stuff like stairs and the likes, but i bet that will come up in a later update.
I build a bit, tried a bit and the prices are quite okay- decoration isn’t particularly expensive and you can truly clutter to your hearts content if the area your building in is small enough- you can also build docks and the likes in ways that your brigs no longer get stuck on them.
The platforms for the water have several ways of attachmentpoints and can be used to build larger ports- in connection with a bit of landscaping, i bet one would even be able to create mountains and the likes.
I did not understand as to why stuff like the cooking pot or potion pot aren’t in the tab with stuff like the fishmongers stand as well, but instead in decoration- there are not many descriptions towards general uses.
There is a limit towards how many of each stand each you can place- one for stuff like fishmonger and the likes. I particularly enjoyed to play around with this to figure out different ways to build a small trading dock or cities for others- with some development, this can definitly be turned into a tiny city builder.
Claiming and the likes was also improved- you can now unclaim isles over the building tool and you can now no longer start a claim and then run off the island/off the solid ground of it which makes such a bit harder. The duration of claiming is also shorter- you can claim islands quite quickly now.
I do wonder how buying and selling stuff works economically- i was able to buy items on another players island, so it is likely that items you sell on such reenter into the economy.
- My gripes
Haha. Oh boy.
With brigs now respawning at the nimbus border when you get killed in the bronze sea (when killed, you and your ship teleport there) and defenses being incredibly easy to set up on islands including things like automated mortars and canons, this has basically turned into a game of “who can set enough boobietraps on claimed islands to make a player ragequit”.
Things you build can be loaded in near instantly, so you can very well use this to suddendly have several mortars near someones ship- and they attack regardless if you are friend or foe, only ships that dont get shot are clan members. (unsure if they leave neutral/non clan players alone, doubt it).
Ships can also now get stuck ATOP of suddendly appearing structures.
Ever had your ship grounded because suddendly appearing rocks decided to fuck you in paticularly? (this will hopefully get fixed up).
Still, island claiming is now far too defender sided due to the automated attacking and defensive options- it is possible to take them over, but the effort truly isnt worth the gain unless you are spiteful.
Exploring is now too harder because of this- i truly just want to get my treasure chart, instead i am then bombarded by island defenses.
Building wise, there are a few frustations with ladders, stairs and platforms- i’d wish to be able to actually build tiny houses myself, but there are no ceilings and you can not place wooden platforms atop one another well.
Decoration wise, we got a very solid selection, but i’d wish we’d get a few plants and railing types as well- also, hanging lanturns would be quite cool as well.
Who knows, maybe we will even encounter playermade cities in the near future?
- Overall score of the clanbuilding: 6/10 from a builders perspective, 2/10 from the perspective of someone who really just wants this goddamn treasure chart without getting her ship sunk by a mortar that was hidden beneath a tree.
What are your experiences with the update so far? Anything good, anything bad?
