Experimental power system I've been working on, would like some feeback

For arguably the past year I’ve been slowly cooking up a “power system” of my own, and seeing as how @gamehero14 asked about theirs, I think it’s safe to assume I can gather feedback about mine.

While I technically have 2 systems, one of them is still far more incomplete, and I’m trying to understand its nature and place in my world (which is a lot harder than I thought :fr:) though I think progress is going smoothly in that regard.

Now, anyway, let’s talk about the core, central mechanic in this world’s system.

We’ll codename it “Substance P” (this is not its actual name I’ve just called it that for confidential reasons)

Substance P is a bizarre, unexplainable liquid that does not behave like any form of matter observed previously. It’s not made out of atoms or particles known to humankind in any aspect, it doesn’t freeze or evaporate, and it’s unusually inert in most cases. Its true origins are a complete enigma, however, recent studies from scholars and scientists alike have concluded that most of the substance P found on Earth may have come from deposits inside of meteors that fell to Earth from the great beyond.

Now, Substance P in humans and most animals is generally harmless, while many companies and brands often put it inside energy drinks or other strange objects as a marketing strategy/health scam, it doesn’t do anything to benefit you, and is like water in that regard. Unrelated side fact: Substance P is heavier than water for reasons currently poorly understood.

Substance P, however, does become useful when consumed by a human or (very, very rarely) an animal that has an active ability, basically, a superpower.

To spare you all from the details, some organisms (primarily humans, though there’s exceptions) are able to use substance P in synergy with this world’s 2nd (and undercooked) power system to manifest bizarre abilities that at extremely high proficiency levels, cause the user to almost “shimmer like a gemstone with raw energy”, as described by many eyewitness accounts of the strongest users of substance P inside their bodies.

Now, I could ramble on about how substance P has a very notable and odd role inside of the rain cycle, and its strange interactions with electricity, but to save everyone from information overload, let’s move to the fun part.

the amalgams.

they have a slightly more creative name, I promise you.

You may have seen a few of these specimens in my art thread already, and if you’ve been making connections, it might be obvious as to what these are already.

the true nature, formation, and general biology of these creatures remains a subject of HUGE scientific controversy and discussion, absolutely nobody knows even how such beings came into existence, but here’s what we can deduce:

-amalgams always seem to appear in “bursts” or “waves” after a significantly powerful thunderstorm charged with substance P

-it’s not exactly understood how they form as laboratory recreations always result in failure (+wasted funds)

-these beings seem to come from once inanimate objects that were presumably soaked in the rainwater that was contaminated with varying amounts of substance P, it’s presumably the substance P causing the anomalous phenomenon to occur.

Amalgams themselves are sentient, usually sapient, and despite sounding like SCPs that would need military intervention, they often can be found fitting in relatively well into human society, and even rarely form businesses or syndicates, do note however that because of their free will and unusual origin, not every “amalgam” may be as friendly or amicable as others…

Anyway, that’s pretty much mostly what I have to say about my power system, or at least, half of it minus a few extra yap sessions, if you have any questions, feel free to share them, and at the very least provide me with some ideas of your own :+1:

hehe

so its crystal meth

magic imbued rain from AO!?!?!?

ATLANTEANS FROM AO!?!?!?

^
also we cant give you much info on the powersystem if the sole use is buffing the other power system which you refuse to tell us about

How did you reach this conclusion bruh :skull:

if anything it’s the other way around

this

so uh
what does it let you do

the main point is that substance P has an interaction with the other system that generates a reaction inside someone which allows for their abilities to manifest, which at extremely high levels of proficiency, users essentially slightly warp reality around them while radiating light like crystals

damn

also it could do with less “we don’t know how the fuck this works” because irl if you’ve learned anything about humans, you know for a fact we are gonna shove that shit in every piece of equipment imaginable to see how it works and what it does, same thing goes for amalgams

depends

there isn’t any rhyme or rhythm with how a power forms inside people really.

-there’s a chick who can control the center of attention

-a man who’s able to segment parts of a given area into metaphorical film reel and “cut out” unwanted details

-a boy capable of a rather gruesome insectoid transformation + controlling antimemetic dust

-a woman who’s able to turn anything into a liquid from touching it, and it’s not melting, she can literally make something a liquid, as weird as that might be to wrap your head around.

we really don’t :sleeper:

we can piece together its interactions and basic properties but any information trying to go deeper usually ends up leading nowhere or is heavily classified and locked away from public information (this is also somewhat lore important)

yeah I’m saying we should, just saying “oh we dunno and cant figure it out” is stupid, especially when IT FALLS FROM THE DAMN SKY WHEN IT RAINS. The vast majority of stuff like this has actual explanations for a reason, and I’m not saying you gotta leak like the secret lore stuff, but just making stuff up for what its made of and other properties would do numbers for immersion

I mean I did specify that it’s not even made out of conventional atomic particles so…

Dubious is dodging deep wb lore dont wanna expose to much don worry he prolly got all regulations there

then scientists would make up a new classification or some shit though

unless this takes place in like Idiocracy or something there’s gonna be enough people studying this seemingly relatively common substance its at least gonna have some names for what its made of

That’s probably not information shared publicly then

substance P, as I’m choosing to call it, does probably have way more detailed specifications but I’m not going to list all of that because it’d be nerdy technojargon nobody cares about

Dubiouslittletyp0 is a little shy and embarassed rn no need to hurt him too much

why are you asking for worldbuilding advice if you aren’t gonna take the advice
:sleeper:

if you wanna make it so its relatively unknown, you gotta make t rarer, if you wanna make it common, you gotta make sure the average (somewhat knowledgeable) person has a grasp on how it works, you cant have your mysterious unknown substance and eat it too

sounds cool

you know, I never said these rain storms are particularly common.

there’s only like a few “substance P” storms like once every 1-2 years or so, and the extremely devastating ones with the most mystery surrounding them have centuries apart in terms of time.

substance P itself is just relatively unknown because, well quite frankly, not many facilities (except a select special few) have the equipment capable of studying it well, even then, it’s usually actually quite hard to purify for research and transporting it can be expensive

my bad, from the idea that the amalgams just exist in cities I assumed they’d be more common

amalgams themselves are an entirely different can of worms ngl lmao
