I really disliked the fact that there isn’t actually a lot interactions with magics which would actually be fun and interesting aside from status effects, so here we go!
As you all know, there are several magic interactions, those being status effects, hazard changing (For example, water puddles electrified if hit with a Lightning magic spell, or the infamous Poison Cloud combusted by a Plasma Magic spell) and, very rarely, terrain and projectile modifying. Those being the flames created after a Plasma Magic spell, or a Metal Magic projectile electrocuted by Lightning Magic (someone confirm if this is true, I think i’m going insane) - and all that doesn’t seem enough for such versatility seekers like me (definitely not self glazing!) so that’s one of the reason for this suggestion. Generally though, more magic interactions will allow for more combinations to exist and make Mage class less boring and not be “Blast + Pulsar + Beam - - > Repeat”
While MOST status effects are fine as it is (except the slowness effects, because like… Come on, I want Frozen and Petrified statuses to last for longer, not just one second!), the hazards interactions and projectile interactions still feel a bit underwhelming.
Hazards
As of now we only have Ash and Poison clouds, Acid, Magma and Water puddles and… that’s it.
First off, Ash Clouds should actually be buffed by a Lightning Magic spell! As one of the forumers mentioned in one of the topics, Ash can actually create Lightning as well, which in AO isn’t a thing, but should definitely be a thing if you’re using Ash & Lightning Mage! That doesn’t touch Poison Magic however.
Some additions should be added to Water Magic as well - for example, an Ice Magic spell hitting the water puddles, freezing them. If an enemy stands on the puddle when it gets frozen, the freezing effect would also cover your character’s legs, adding another status effect which will not allow you to move unless you forcefully do a dodge (Or just dash, or use a mobility spell or technique like Hasta, Airstep and stuff.) which will deal a small damage to you based on the same formula for DMG that is used for Ash and Poison clouds, thus allowing you to move again.
A lot of other stuff like this can be added too, the possibilities are endless!
Empowered projectiles
Now onto my favourite part.
Whether you or your ally has hit your spell with another one while it’s still active (a.k.a you cast a Blast spell, and the projectile is still flying, and then gets hit by allied spell projectile) there are certain interactions that could happen. I will not be mentioning all the empowered projectiles possibilities because that would extend my suggestion by a lot, so here’s some that I had first thought of:
(Note that the magic that is mentioned first is the one having it’s spell struck with another one)
Metal & Lightning - Metal spell is electrocuted, increasing it’s speed and damage and adds up a player of Lightning Magic around the Metal spell itself which can damage other players if close enough without the need for Metal Magic spell to actually hit the mentioned player (Basically a damage Aura around Metal magic)
Light & Shadow (Or Shadow & Light) - When combined, creates a projectile empowered by black and white electricity around it, dealing high damage.
Water & Lightning - No explanation needed, just your average water magic blast imbued with Lightning magic
Crystal & Light - Causes the crystal spell to glow brightly, causing all the players that state at the given spell to be blind for a short duration.
Magma & Ash - Causes the Magma spell to also spread a lot of hazards around the explosion, but is much heavier and thus, slower.
Wood & Heat Magic - Will make the wood spell burn and emanate flames which will give the spell an additional status effect (Burning) and increase the damage in general.
Poison & Fire OR Plasma OR Flare OR Heat - Causes the poison spell to combust, dealing damage in the area where it combusted, and the cloud spawned will immediately have whatever heat magic used for combination on it.
And so on.
There’s of course negative interactions, for example, any solid magic hitting another solid magic’s spell. This causes both spells to explode, however this still deals damage on the place of explosion.
Several interactions wouldn’t be as unique, for example a Water & Acid combination, which would just turn the projectile into Acid projectile or just make it weaker
POWER OVERWHELMING!
