Fish Preserving

Unlike many of my other suggestions, this one’s very small and simple, yet its one that I would appreciate a ton. Currently, as the game is, I’m pretty sure that fish rot in a few days for the simple fact that if they didn’t, that they’d rapidly clog our inventories. However, sometimes, we have fish that we really want to keep to cook with later to make really strong meals. My idea is this:

To preserve a fish in our inventory, let us click on it, and apply 1 rock salt. This would keep it from rotting.

This would prevent the issue of overfilling inventories with fish causing us to lag ourselves and others when opening our inventories, but it would let us (logically) preserve fish for long periods of time so that we can make really strong meals without worrying about a time constraint. This would also be a nice, albeit tiny reason for us to continue fishing, as we gain a new source of strong recovery food that doesn’t require hunting dark sea animals or anything like that.

This would also keep fishing as a source of bones though, as a nice in-between because most people have far too much rock salt on them at all times that they’ll logically never use.

I disagree with method, but I agree with Idea. How about we use Samerian Ice instead? I mean we mix both ice and salt then kaboom preserved fish (when we mix the fish ofc). But for the sake of immersion let it stay for like a week till it start rotting.

I went with salt because of accessibility, providing use for an otherwise nearly useless item, and because its moreso about the idea of drawing moisture out of the fish to prevent it from rotting. In general IRL too, salt is more capable for long-term storage/preservation of meats.

iirc fish were originally made to rot back when fishing was released in WoM so that people wouldn’t save them as “money packs” to later mass sell for crowns whenever they needed it, which Vetex thought would destroy the economy and bypass losing crowns on death.

But in current AO, fleets already lwk destroyed the economy, and rn fish rotting is mostly just a source of bones and bonus luck reagents… so there’s no reason to not add a way to preserve them

I see. Well then imma just agree

or lowkey, vetex should just add a fridge in your brig

when you interact with it, a ui will pop up that allow you to pick any fish you wanna preserve plus an ice cube to preserve it, meaning to preserve like 50 fish, you need 50 ice cubes

you can also just.. put it in the fish tank.

The issue with this is that using the brig’s fish tank for the purpose of storing fish for cooking stops you from being able to use the fish tank for the purpose of decoration. Many people like putting their most esteemed, rare fish in the tank. Personally, I’m trying to put in an arcane jellyfish alongside all the new magic imbued jellyfish forms. I wanna be able to use the fish tank for that purpose rather than using it for storing fish to be cooked.

i think fish shouldn’t rot at all, i mean meat doesn’t rot, just add a different way to get the scales, and adding something like a fish bag that holds all your fish would prevent making inventory hard to navigate.

The only way to persevere fish is via the fish tank and that is really only for display and you can only store 5 so this makes sense

I like the suggestion, but let’s take it a step further.

Add an ice box on Brigs and other high tier ships, allowing you to store as much fish as you want as long as you have the rock salt to keep them preserved. Rock salt would be consumed at a rate similar to, what, one every 2 or three in-game days? Seems reasonable.
