So Magic Pollution is the presence of magic in the environment that won’t go away, so therefore its effects must be tied to one or more magics, right?
That means that one of the magics is Fish Transformation Magic, because folks with prolonged exposure to magic pollution become fishy, and their weapons too.

My personal theory is that magic energy mutates you based off of your diet. “You are what you eat” sorta deal. The only food humans can access in the dark sea is various types of fish, so that’s what they become.
So if an atlantean lived on an island with berry bushes, they’d become a berry man?
Their bodies mutated magically in the way they did in order to withstand the conditions of the dark sea; the harmful rain and overwhelming water required them to become more amphibious or semi-aquatic in order to live.
