Due to Vetex being Unsure of what method or quest would be needed from when I checked the Trello this is going to be my idea for one possible way players may be able to gain the usage of personal fleets.
You could meet some retired general/Fleet Commander somewhere within Sameria that used to lead a portion of Samerias fleet in some of their previous wars who mentions that they may come out of retirement to help fend off the Keraxe Invasion.
You could then talk to them about teaching you how to lead a fleet of your own so they would not need to leave retirement. While they are flattered at you wanting them to stay comfy in retirement they can’t exactly just teach someone they know almost nothing about. So they will want you to prove yourself by sinking some of the Armored Keraxe Ships while using your own ship in order to prove your worth at Naval combat. (Like 2-5)
After completing the quest you return to the retired Fleet Commander who will be quite impressed that you were actually able to sink multiple of the invading Keraxe ships and finally agree to teach you on just how you could get a fleet of your own. As extra the quest could possibly be expanded to then gaining said first addition to your fleet and they could give you some more basic lessons as to what you can do with the ship(s) that you have added into your fleet
(This was one of the 2 suggestions I made to get this role, will prob put down the other suggestion i made in a few days, longer than this one)
Honestly the fleet feature worries me quite a bit, since there is already quite a spike of lag when the number of ships near yours is more than 2.
I’m scared to even think when there will be more.
According to the trello the fleet mechanic would be alot more like a minigame for the most part with only a small part of it actually appearing in the main game
and only up to 4 player fleets would be able to spawn per server + recently I have heard that for full release they plan to optimize or at least reduce the amount of lag that ships currently cause
Simple and sounds good, maybe leads into a small tutorial on how the fleet system works with the guy explaining it. Could provide a good framework for future stuff too.
If I had a nickel for every time I saw someone worried about lag from a new feature; I’d still not be able to afford a Dr Pepper from a vending machine in this economy, but I’d at least have a dollar. Anyways, I would worry too much about fleets lagging you, Fort Castrum has done more to lag the game than a few ships ever will.
Yep, accounted for that as the end of the final paragraph, an extra quest after unlocking the fleet system would be what helps with the basics of understanding the actual fleet system
I feel like Kenton could also be a way for players to obtain fleets.
For starters he, if I’m remembering right, was a commander in the navy, so he obviously knows about it, and he has his stupid little sailboat sitting on Elm island to this day!
