Cost and Info
The Surrender Flag would be a new Fleet Research point after the Fleet Raven. It’d cost 125k Drachma. When equipped, it would be a colossal white banner that covers your ship’s sails.
Function
While on your ship, waving the flag would disable your ship’s defenses. Waving it again would reverse the effect. Quartermasters would respond to the flag’s use in chat. While your defenses are disabled (which would show in your command wheel UI), you can safely visit any fort, as they will not fire on you.
Fort Residents
Depending on the fort’s kingdom and their stats, the merchants there (which would be ensigns/soldiers/vikings standing or leaning on the walls, randomly in set spots), would have discounts. Armorers would sell kingdom’s armor/weapons and be discounted more the higher the kingdom’s Army stats. Shipwrights would sell pieces of Hull Armor and sails within their sea’s range (like Rugged and Bronze Hull Armors at Fort Castrum, Silver, Iron, and Steel at Montu), and both Shipwrights and Builders would be discounted more the higher the kingdom’s Navy stat. Those three would be the only merchants on the fort. One or two passerby (civillians docked at the fort) would talk more about its history.
Seems kinda unrelated to fleets in general and should just be a regular item atp, the only benefit has nothing to do with fleets and, if added, should be available to all players.
…But, broadly speaking, I dont really see the point. These are military forts and essentially “raid bosses”. On the lore side, why would the fort accept you, why would they offer you cheap stuff (if anything it should be more expensive). On the gameplay side, why would players bother doing that anyway. On the development side, why should there be ressources allocated to adding this.
i find some appeal in the civilians that tell you about the fort than anything else, neat lore, but at this point just put them on other nearby islands or in the kingdom’s capital.
Yeah actually, though the same thing could be said in some regard to the Rowboat Launch. Maybe a Seafaring item? Knowing how to signal to a fort that you’re friendly seems like something a seafarer would know.
That’s true. I just think logically, at least a few forts might not be military zones. Iris even visits Fort Montu, and she’s in the same position in the Samerian Army as us.
On the lore side, I’ve already explained earlier in the reply that due to fear, respect, or army status, forts would probably let you in if you disclosed so from afar. Fort raids also aren’t canon, so…
On the gameplay side, who wouldn’t want one or two more places to repair their ship? Both the forts are or will be great stops on the way from Skyhall to Sameria and Ravenna to Jotunheim, respectively. Also, Silverhold and Shieldguard are pretty much strictly military (there are no civillians on either) and they still fire at you. On the development side, I’m not sure if it’d take much time. Maybe half a day’s worth of coding the fort barriers and hiding the Treasury. I don’t know much about game dev.
