Flight topic

Apparently there is a real possibility that flight will be added next update.

Since the discussion in the general thread was becoming too long, I’m gonna write here a couple of my thoughts:

  1. Is flying gonna be a skill?
    Everyone is assuming that flying will be in the form of a skill, with just reasons since in WoM it was so, but I think that it could be quite feasible to instead introduce it as a feature similar to dodge reflex, for these reasons:

A) It’s not made to be implemented in combat, since it would be way too overpowered.
It’s (probably, my guess) made to be used as an occasional travel tool, either in dark sea or in cases where a ship would be annoying (ex: using a high-tier cumbersome ship to go back to a low level zone, such as the Jaws).

No need to waste a skill slot for a traveling tool.

B) Implementation easier for every build: an easy interface.
Vetex said that it would be quite a chore to implement flight in other build, especially FS and weapons build, most probably because of lore reasons.

I found around some ideas for every build:

Spirit builds: the easiest to come up with, not much different from magic, I read ideas about summing winds or elements of some kind to fly.
Honestly not much to elaborate on this one.

Strength builds: large boosts to running/jumping/swimming.
While at first glance this might seem unfair to strength builds, the way I imagined this for them would be as an aura (obv disabled in combat), meaning that they would still be able to use skills such as step and dodges reflexes to change directions.
Meanwhile the other stats builds would be continuous, meaning they cannot use other skills or actions while using flight.
This could give a nice unique touch to strength builds.

Weapons builds:
Based around the use of tools and “science” instead of unique innate or divine abilities, I think that some magic-technology could fit nicely for them, something like mechanical wings, or some tools of some kind.

Honestly, I don’t really think that any of this will be considered or even looked at, it’s mainly just a way to keep track of ideas.

strength gets airplane embodiment (idk)
spirit gets unlimited flight but it also drains your hp lol

how would you even activate that, if it would be similar to dodge reflexes? maybe holding down T, maybe pressing T while charging. but even then, how would the player be able to know how long the cooldown is?
I just don’t think it works well as an ability like that, although it would help with the amount of skills.

Flight could be cool if it didnt take the slot for spell. Yk some exotic scroll that lets you learn it like reflex

I think it would be interesting if flight and hover were combined in one skill, with the option to pick one or the other.
flight would have a long windup and shoot you off like in WoM, draining energy after the windup (unlike in WoM)
Hover would be a more controlled version of flight, allowing the user to make much more precise movements while hovering in the air (wasd to move on the same elevation, space to move up, shift to move down instead of charging energy). activating hover is almost instant and using it on the ground shoots the player up slightly similar to a jump.

then there’s a speed slider in which you can specify how fast you want your flight/hover to be, with higher speed draining more energy compared to lower speed.

I think that would be fun
