Welcome back Gods and monsters, and those inbetween!
Today i’m taking a break from my crusade in the name of weapons, to touch a more subjective matter:

Flower Magic
Yeah, I’m taking an uphill battle here… Rather, I’m climbing the siege ladder after seeing countless fall.

TL:DR

Add a petal based magic.
Either, preferably, as a starting magic, but at the very least as a lost magic. In this post i’ll develop 2 versions of it, one as starting and one as lost.
I firmly believe a petal based magic would fit a niche nothing else can fill right now…

Context [Skippable]


First off, lets face it. For as scatterbrained and unconventional as they were, “Ink” and “Paper”, specially Paper, were among the most unique and novel concepts. With them gone , not only did we lose 2 options from base selection with no replacemente, we also lost two of the most interesting ones.

Along with that, the statement that there will never be new starting magics or variations is tragic. There are plenty of concepts that are not different enough to make it as lost magics, but would fit in nicely as starter magics.

Lastly, and this is the personal part, I think flower based attacks are awesome. And I know I’m not alone on this one. Attacks leaving trails of magic petals that disolve midair, tearing your opponent apart in a blossom storm. It is all just so visually appealing… Anyways, to the actuall suggestion.

Concept - Mechanics [Necessary]


I would love for flower magic to be a base, starting magic. But being realistic, I know it’s much more likely for it to get added as a lost magic.

That said, i’m splitting this into:

  • a simpler suggestion that could be used as a starter magic.
  • and a more mechanically complex that could be added as a lost magic.

Starter magic

  • Magic type: Energy (like plasma or fire)

  • Appearance: Clusters of petals (or leaves if you pick green or orange) that leave a small trail of falling petals/leaves through the air (vfx only)

  • Color Variants: As many as crystal magic, but green would be leaves instead of petals and orange would be autumn leaves.

  • Status: Bleed

  • Gimmick: Blossom - Attacks stacks petals that decay over time. Stacking 5 petals will trigger a blossom, dealing extra damage to the target and reapplying bleed

  • Archetype: Fast

  • Damage: Mid to low

  • Imbue VFX: Swirling petals along with a slight hue change to match the magic color

Lost magic

  • Magic type: Fluid (like water or snow)

  • Appearance: Clusters of petals (or leaves if you pick green or orange) that leave a small trail of falling petals/leaves through the air. Leaves a lile of petals/leaves on the impact location.

  • Color Variants: as many as crystal magic, but green would be leaves instead of petals and orange would be autumn leaves.

  • Status: Bleed

  • Gimmick: Blossom - Attacks stacks petals that decay over time. Stacking 5 petals will trigger a blossom, dealing extra damage to the target and reapplying bleed.

  • Gimmick: Bloom - Attacking previously placed piles of petals causes them to burst in a small AoE, dealing damage and stacking a petal on the target hit. A burst from a blooming pile can burst other piles, creating the potential for chaining bursts.

  • Archetype: Fast

  • Damage: Mid

  • Imbue VFX: Swirling petals along with a slight hue change to match the magic color.

[Addendum: although I think the starter magic should have the Blossom gimmick, i’m fine with it only having bleed if it means adding it as a starter magic.]

In Conclusion

I firmly believe the game could benefit of a base magic that plays on bleed without being a solid magic. This could be a great boost to both character customization and build making.

And even as a lost spell, I believe the added gimmick of bursting piles could offer a different enough play style to justify adding it. Area negation and setting traps could prove quite fun.

And more than anythign, i believe this would feel unique

In all honesty, i spent the whole day going about how i could share this idea in a way you guys could understand how fun I believe this would be

As cool as this seems, there aren’t going to be any new base magics and I fully doubt vetex is taking suggestions for lost’s.

Magic suggestions are part of the declined suggestions list:

while it would be great, I feel like it would be better NOT having bleed, but keep blossom mechanic dealing it. it feels too much like paper otherwise. some clashing and interactions with other magic would be cool, like touching water puddles and earth rubbles, sprouting a flower that deal DOT with spores or swirling petals around it. the petals pile, i have no clue if it should keep that or not. overall, i have to agree, flowers are cool, especialy when they are cutting people’s throats.

I’d also really want Flower Magic to be added in some form, but not for the same reasons as you.
