Fran's never-ending doodle chain

I just remembered this right as I was about to sleep…
Just wanted to say, I’m willing to explain more about that emperor villain I mentioned.

The first guys face looks so punchable :skull:

Is that character lore I hear? I’m all ears :eyes:

Bold of u to assume im running away from him, no… Im running TOWARDS HIM YAAAAAA-

Well, if you’re all ears, I’ll just… Put as much of it as I can into a summary!

(Also a big thank-you to @ItsameTree for even making him possible by writing the kingdom in the first place, alongside the fellas from Robobitch Odyssey for encouraging me to write villains of this magnitude and sheer evil as well)

So… Listen, and I’ll tell you a story. The story… Of Remington Oryn, the Emperor of Oryn.
I’ll do my best to cut it short enough, too.

Summary

I won’t say too much about his first and second iterations, as, although the first was amazing for motivating the main party to kill him… Dear fucking god it was a trainwreck and got way, WAY too dark. The second one got cut short by a lack of motivation…

But, I can provide an overview of who he is - particularly, as I’m actively writing the third iteration of Oryn and the bastard emperor himself, Remington

Remington is the current-standing emperor of the Empire of Oryn, which is loosely based off of France. Very loosely. He’s just 26 years old, but he is a prodigy of magic on a magnitude nobody has seen in ages. We’re talking giant pool of energy, already has a lost magic, that stuff.
In the currently set-up canon, he’s also an extra Order of Aesir High Lord, strictly due to his sheer contribution to their research efforts.
Interestingly, Oryn never had any Order ties before Remington took power. His father, Emperor Harsir, who willingly let go of the throne due to a lethal disease he contracted, literally beat the Order out of the nation when they tried to gain his support.

But that is perhaps… Beyond the point I should be making.

Remington is obsessed with all things superstitious, and it’s easier to number what he doesn’t believe in. Astrology, horoscopes, old wives tales… All of it is in his interest.
Due to this, he supposedly claims to have seen his name written in the stars, destined for power, discovery, fame, and great conquest.
If it wasn’t obvious, he’s a complete and total egomaniac that is only supported by the poppycock of superstition.

But, he also dares to have seen the stars align in light of his name, and the name of a certain twenty year-old gunsmith, Elyssia Privet.
He’s been obsessed with her for the past four years, trying to get her attention, and even stalking her at times.
Of course, four years spent like that, now he’s trying to be direct. Remington is going to do whatever it takes the make his supposed “fate” fall into place.

I could spill more, but the sheer number of spoilers for the plot would be far too much, and would crowd this summary further (it’s already overloaded, god forbid I write more)

…That was actually very interesting! A magical prodigy and the ruler of an empire who seeks all the self gratification he can get his hands on through the stars’ position. Makes me wonder, does he have some investment in Elyssa Privet (interesting last name btw lol) that comes from a place of genuine emotional admiration? Or is he that obsessed with her because of the alignment of the stars?

Nevertheless, it’s very cool. Great concepts galore!

This. Mainly.
Also don’t ask about her last name, I forgot why I made it that lmao. I know I had a reasoning (think it had to do with her being a lesser opponent originally, but I then decided that she wouldn’t die nor be a foe, so… Think of it as a representation of her tenacity…?)

My good sir, you have caught my interest.
If this was a book, I will gladly buy it.

you’re giving me way too much credit here, all I did was come up with the idea, you’re the one who gave it life

You were the one who kicked it off, y’know. You held onto it for a few months.
That’s what inspired me to take up the torch. You still deserve the credit.

An egomaniacal superstitious emperor with a severe god complex who’s gifted a shit ton of magical power that only serves to inflate his ego and has an obsession with a random woman who probably doesn’t even know Oryn exists because the “stars dictate them to be together” and all that other bullshit that got the ”witches” of Salem killed?! Holy shit! That’s an interesting story about egomania and the potential downfall of this dastardly superstitious High Lord. (No doubt the Order takes advantage of his obsession with “destiny” despite his magical strength.)

Hey, I’ll keep this in mind!

She’s from there, btw.

SHIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELD UPDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!!!

A lot of the colouring has been finished and at the moment I’m working on the details and front design of the shield. Progress hasn’t been as fast as I wanted it to be because I had to go to another city to resupply with acrylic paint and with the start of school I had less time.
In the bits that I did work, this is what I’ve been able to do:

*Applied the base colours on the shield, excluding the handle

*Covered said handle in primer

*Added bits and pieces of detail that’s not very noticeable but satisfying nonetheless (made it have sparkly elements via glitter glue, but not go overboard with it, making the metal look rugged, all that jazz)

*As mentioned before, began working on the front design

One more thing I have to mention is that I’m having a bit of a change of mind about a certain design choice, that being the prayers in Latgalian. That is because I cannot picture how I’m going to make this look good and because I don’t have enough paint to cover up my mistakes, I won’t be able to do it without another trip to another city. The other reason is because I have other detail planned for it and I don’t want to go overboard.

Anyways, thank you for reading allat if you did! I’m slowly but surely getting closer to the end and I’m quite excited to see the results.

Fun fact: the Russian word for “shield” sounds exactly like “shit” ;D

I didn’t read allat ('cause I gotta run)

But I can safely say, holy shit. This turned out absolutely amazing, Fran.
Who knew some layered toilet paper could make for such a good surface?!
