i was recently talking to a friend when he asked me “whats wrong with arcane odyssey? why doesnt everything feel like it used to?” and i honestly couldnt tell him, cause even i have a few questions about it
so yeah, whats some constructive criticism to why arcane odyssey is this way currently (as much as i want to say buff armor, i dont wanna be biased or cause drama so id like for it to be a cool convo)
since optimization screwing some players over instead of being a great help, i think most of them are just waiting to play for chapter 10 and more optimization, so that might be a reason
I’m being serious, the entire reason Arcane Odyssey is in such a bad state is due to Vetex’s lack of control when it comes to his severe feature-creep.
On top of the fact the optimization update only worked for the top 5% of people… it isn’t looking good for the future of the game.
yes, or i think the better way to word it here is just played too much and don’t have anything else to do. the nature of a live-service game is that it needs frequent updates or the game will get dry one way or another; chapter 10 will hit great but after a while it will get boring again. also, you will never get to replicate the sense of bashing your head against a wall and having fun while doing it like you did on your first playthrough again
the other thing is the nerf-happy balancing. in an effort to keep pvp playable, a lot of things get nerfed or reworked, so abilities you might once be familiar with now feel horrible (devastate has been more unusable than ever in the time i have played). yeah, it might be out of good intent, but for people who don’t do pvp this is just a straight downgrade to the gameplay experience
genuinely part of the blame also has to go to roblox; before you would frequently have funny interactions with people that make up a huge part of the experience. nowadays half of the people you see won’t be able to see anything you say
final thing i want to say is that the game doesn’t feel like it used to because it just outright isn’t what it used to be. full release introduced a lot of new features for better and for worse and it made the game drastically different
aside from performance i dont really think you can say that the game is worse than it was when it first came out, so it really is likely just a combination of my point and yours
Like others are saying it could just be that your growing out of the target audience
It could also just be a collection of small/medium-sized issues collectively watering your general game experience down . Things like specific bugs/features, the balancing or the current state of the economy.
Progression also is just more annoying. they made it really grindy, but not save across all files meaning you have to level stuff like fleets and profession all over again for every file you have (really tedious if you have more than one). Like cool man i have to triple the hour count on most of my files to call them atleast semi-done.
While Vetex may not be updating the game a lot: that comes from many factors, like us, the community; we to are at fault for the slow updates, and I don’t think directing hate at people will solve the problem.
There is no hate, we are not at fault for slow updates, Vetex barely listens to his own testers yet alone his community.
It’s the developer’s job to deliver the updates for their games, if they fail to do so in a timely manner; It’s not the playerbase’s fault, it’s solely theirs.
Therefore, at the moment, Vetex is at fault for not being able to deliver AO updates in a timely manner… especially seeing as his original roadmap included Vimir Sea in 2024.
before he released the nimbus sea and the ds update and cassia bay and the full release update and jewelcrafting. the updates he gives us are massive which explains the long updates + hes not the only dev so u cant just blame him
Which took a significant amount of time to come out, some of which received average results, lower performance and buggier features, the work was easily Full Release when it was just factually unplayable due to the barely-thought-out development.
Big updates /= good updates, he needs to realize that.
Smaller updates often provide a better result in the end, as for example, the Full Release update could’ve been a series of smaller updates each with their own batch of feedback, and hence after each smaller update he could have time to fix the issues and players wouldn’t have to wait for so long.
I am blaming him because he controls everything.
If something needs to be balanced? Go through Balance Team which go through him.
If something needs to be implemented? Go through him.
If something needs to be changed? Go through him.
If something needs to be removed? Go through him.
The main reason I can hardly bring myself play the game is the simple fact that everything is just more time consuming than it used to be
I’m not fourteen anymore. I scarcely have that kind of time on my hands, and when I do, I’m not spending it on Roblox
I’ll use file progression as an example of this since it’s basically my biggest issue with the game at the moment
I’ve played since day one and making a new file used to mean spending eight hours leveling up to 125 and maybe grinding for some boss gear or god forbid sunkens
That had its own issues but at least it wasn’t unbearable and it was certainly fun being able to just try things out
Meanwhile, if you want a file today, you have to fight the three worst bosses in the game’s history and deal with the nightmare of game design that is fleets and professions
Professions didn’t single-handedly kill my interest in the game but they got pretty damn close. They’re basically mandatory if you want to make a viable build, and fleets are absolutely mandatory if you want to participate in the game’s economy
vetex spent a lot of dev time on things like jewel crafting, professions, lost and mythical charts, lost knowledge, weapon grease, gilded gear, modifiers, fleets, abyssal diving, hecate essence, water poisoning, etc…
but what did those features actually add to the gameplay experience? i’d argue… not that much tbh
there’s no one big problem to point to, but rather a bunch of little things that piled up and eventually made the qol of the game kinda miserable while also taking away dev time from things people really looked forward to like the nimbus sea update or in the future lost and ancient magics
