Foreword

Today, I played Arcane Odyssey for the first time in around a week. I’m a pretty active player, what can I say. However, I mainly play the ‘Friendly’ (Fame) renown path.

Today, however, I cleared my fame and played ‘Unfriendly’ (Bounty) and enjoyed it much more. I have done this previously, and I always get to access exclusive locations, play out unique scenarios (like epic prison breaks), and have a much more fun time simply evading small dangers (not to mention the finest Fleet ships around).

This suggestion serves as parity and similar experiences for Fame players, while still being unique and not a reskin. And of course, it’ll be a wiki post, by the people and for the people.

Proposals

  • Envy: Fame’s Notoriety counterpart, where after around 25,000 Fame (since it’s the default route) AS ships of equal tier, but of different variants (like Sloops vs. Sailboats once they are added) than Gravy boats will be sent after you if you’re in the Sea, and red-cloaked “citizen” NPCs will spawn to trigger enemy encounters when they are bumped into, if you have any Envy (Vetex colored stars).
  • Remove Renown Shield: Your actions are your own, their consequences should be yours to deal with.
  • Navy Company Store: At all Grand Navy installations, NPC’s spawn in structures around a large room (in both existing cases, the Cafeteria) where rookies operate the typical shops, aside for the Food Merchant, who is replaced by a Cook that sells meals that are tiered by the sea you’re in. There are also Deckhand and dialog NPC spawns dotting other empty areas. (Whitesummit and Makrinaos would also get the parts of this treatment they don’t already have.)
  • Buying Fleet Ships: At the Shipwrights of both renown-exclusive islands (from now on referred to as Strongholds), you can buy ships for your fleet for the same cost as they would for yourself, and affix ship parts to them while buying them (since they’re made with none). There’d also be a way to swap out ships but that’s for a QoL post.
  • PvP Protection: Until the Leader (Kalliste, Amelia, etc…) of a stronghold is killed (in which case they stay dead until the murderer leaves the area), no one of the matching renown of the Stronghold can be attacked by another player.
  • Barracks Keeper: If your renown matches the stronghold, you can set your spawn and spawn in one of the bedrooms that are already littered through three of four Strongholds (the Red Corner is tiny)

I really like this, Fame has always felt lacking in the new gameplay it adds, since all it really has going for it is ‘well the navy won’t annoy you’. Having similar features while also making them different enough to feel like your gameplay changes when playing both of them would be awesome. Couple of things though:

Not too sure how this would work with PvP? Would it just be like an area where nobody can attack eachother, or would it only be a renown shield for say criminals in Blackwater Grotto, but fame players could still be attacked?

Could you elaborate a bit more on this? Would it just spawn assassins when bumped into?

i assume so, like how you attack a soldier npc and they “spawn” one of the soldier npcs that fight you rather than the wandering one

i like this but maybe instead of “envy” it could be named something like Valor or Merit

no do not bring back losing 10k fame from opening a private storage by accident i beg

maybe this could be toggleable for those who want it and those who dont, i dont really see a reason for it though since it’d be annoying if you accidentally hit a hero npc while trying to hit a criminal and now youre in a 2v1

definitely, good suggestion

sure i guess, this isnt really for heroes though as it’d be for everyone (i still think it’d be better to just get the ships yourself since you pay less than a brig for a fully equipped brig when you sink them, so i dont see this feature being used often personally)

not a pvper but i think this is just a bad idea unless you specify some more, like maybe it doesnt work if you have an active combat tag or are being hunted (imagine a leaderboard player hiding in makrinaos and you have to kill kalliste to fight them, and then by then youre already low from the fight or they ran off while you were fighting, just seems way too abusable)

sure

Idk what to say but i want this :+1:t2:

gonna gut grinding for their gear, especially amelia with how she is at the center of the area. while good in pvp ig, pve gets hit with quite the force

this is smth i do love though

ok well this is a wiki post for a reason
let’s workshop how to better do the PvP protection

hey yall when i said let’s workshop it that was your opening to respond

this suggestion really is great and it would make playing as fame even more exciting thats why i think it should be added at first fame seems like a boring route since bounty gets to do anything and everything but with this they will be the same in terms of gameplay like getting jumped by navy

i would rather not, for the sole reason that fame is sort of meant to be the low risk low reward path that doesn’t impact gameplay all that much. bounty has more benefits and more exclusive content, but you have to deal with notoriety (and both sides of renown can attack you as opposed to only one, but that’s mainly a problem for pvpers). dealing with notoriety is not always fun, getting attacked in the middle of doing something is not always something that you will find exciting and interesting. i’d rather more stuff get added to bounty than more stuff get added to fame, which would exaggerate bounty more as a chaotic high risk high reward to fame’s peaceful low risk low reward

I feel like if Bounty stuff got tweaked a bit more, then this suggestion could work a lot better. Some of these changes work well, whilst I feel like others don’t.

I do think Fame does deserve to be more exciting, but having the option to go into Bounty is what makes it feel good— especially since you get Fame for free, compared to going out of your way for Bounty. Maybe we could split our current Fame and Bounty into three, and these changes could fit better: Fame is basically “oh, they’re a celebrity, they’re sometimes known for kind ideals”; but this ‘Valor’ could be for somebody actively being heroic, and would act more like Bounty.
