I think it’s reasonable for him to add normal animals so we don’t just have fish and sea life as the alternative to humans, and it gives him more to expand on how magic pollution has affected normal wildlife in the harshest areas with magic.
Not to mention, again, these things aren’t separated from each other? He’s adding dragons and he’s adding satyrs, he’ll likely add more mythological creatures in the places he thinks they’ll make sense in. He’s doing this along with natural animals too, and that’s perfectly fine.

wouldnt be shocked if the far reaches one had more hp then white eyes 
sir there’s like a minimum of 8 months until full release, I think it’s generally a good idea to start smaller with stuff like animals corrupted by the dark sea such that crimsonpants wets his crimson pants rather than implement dark sea dragons two weeks after beginning development. Maybe there’s systems vetex is working on that these big fights will use, and the smaller animals are a sort of small-scale test of those systems to see if it works?
